92 year old Daily Telegraph columnist/ ex editor WF Deedes launched a
sterling defence of club culture this week, suggesting staying out all
night raving could prove to be excellent training for gallant young
officers going off to fight in Iraq.

"As a frequenter of nightclubs in the 1930s, let me take the stand for
a moment," the veteran reveller (who's nowadays a lifetime peer)
pleaded.

"The hardest struggle in prolonged conflict is not being brave but
staying awake, and this I found, is where we nightclubbers had the edge
over fresh-faced young men, not long out of school and fit as fleas, who
after a day and night without sleep, found it hard to keep their eyes
open," Lord Deedes recalled.

Swaziland Bus Drivers Issue Miniskirt Rape Threat

Over 1,000 women protested in Swazilland this week after bus drivers
gang-raped an 18 year old girl for wearing a miniskirt and threatened to
do it again to any other women daring to wear 'revealing clothes'.

"Women who wear miniskirts want to be raped," a conductor declared,
"and we will give them what they want." (Daily Telegraph)

According to the British Foreign Office, crime levels are usually
relatively low in the Southern African country though their webiste
recommends avoiding strolling after dark in the downtown areas of Mbabane and
Manzini (where the attack happened).

The UK government site also warns that Swaziland has the highest HIV/
AIDS infection rate in the world (38.6% of the population are infected,
over half of whom are women) and also provides unusually detailed
information on a recent sex scandal involving the country's leader, King
Mswati III.

"The mother of a girl selected to be one of the King's wives took legal
action against the King's emissaries in 2002 for taking the girl
without her permission, although she later dropped the court case," the FO

VELVET REVOLVER frontman SCOTT WEILAND has accused GEORGE W BUSH of ?taking advantage? of public grief following the September 11 attacks by leading his country into war.
Today (November 2), Americans head out to the polls and decide whether or not to keep their President. And last night Weiland ? former singer with Stone Temple Pilots ? released a statement urging his fans to vote against Bush.
He wrote: "I remember the weeks following 9/11. The tragedy, the sadness, and that overwhelming feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop; then something else happened. America came together and rose out of the ashes like a Phoenix for the first time in my life. The ideals, hopes, and common bonds that once were the bedrock of this nation rose again to the surface and we let the world see what we were made of - our unity, brotherly love, and honour, even if brought together by tragedy.
"I feel that George Bush took advantage of us. Took advantage of our loss. Took advantage of our pain. Took advantage of our grief, and used it for his own selfish designs. The question is not whether or not this happened, but if we're going to do something to change it. Please make a vote that shows America does not belong to George Bush.
