Killing one person or another is not a real solution. When one person is killed another one of his followers with equal or even worst values take over. However I do agree that the demise of Prachanda, Baburam and few of their cadres will bring end to the maoabdi influence.

ImI,
I live outside of Nepal and was only giving my personal opinion. I'm not affiliated with any party, king or maoist, doesn't have any realtive working for them either. Frankly I'm not well informed with current situations in Nepal except for few glimpses on yahoo. All I was doing was writing what I belived and seen in other culture. And no, I do not consider myself smarter than you. If my comment offended you, than I apologize. The more I write, the more I waste time and I have a regular job. It seems that people from every corner of political connections are coming here in Sajha and bombarding their messages and if I keep on writing, some will definetly think of me as one too (typical nepali attitude).
My last say:
When we have already achieved at least on writing for a neautral country, PEACEFULLY with no KILLING. Then you're not happy. That's Nepal and Nepali anyway. Please go back to bring back the "Hindu state " with protest, destruction of public property, life and blood shed. If that makes you happy, then so be it. What do I care?
Bye, I'm sigining off with peace with you.

Peace will only exist if the issues of the people from all sides are taken into consideration that means mandate of the people is the supreme and should be supreme, Maobadis are not supreme nor are the SPAs. Is there anyone who cares for others then themselves? No-one! Why is the issue of a "secular" state now? Did anyone other than Maobadis asked for it? NO. Then why the heck they had to declare a secular state without considering its consequences?
This could also be one of the Maobadi agenda to divide the people; make the SPAs weaker to come to power. Could be.. only time can tell..

It is sad Nepalese just don't care, they do not stand for anything.

There are many things to be depressed about Nepal, in fact I'm these days.

1. Its not a matter of whether Nepal is called Hindu state or not. It was a matter of proud for me when "NEPAL WAS THE ONLY HINDU STATE IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE"
I could say that proudly too all the foreigner, but not any more.

2. Nepal used to be the PEACE LAND, that doesn't exist anymore. Thanks to Maoist

3. We were taught while in Nepal, birth place of Lord Buddha, nobody in western world believes that, they think its INDIA, all books, media says it India.

4. Nepalese Army used to be the bravest, not anymore, they couldn't even catch these

coward Prachanda & Babu Ram for years, at least, we wouldn't have to see these days if they had catch and kill 'em years ago.

Since Madhav Nepal said, anyone disagreeing with him
will be left out, I'm waiting for the day if it ever comes, people will decide
or get a chance to vote instead on whether to keep Nepal as a HINDU state.

kapil ji and ktmeye ji why in the world you guys are so worried about nepal not being hindu nation anymore. with given time and situation, what good has it done to our people by being a hindu nation? nothing at all. besides who in the world gives sh**t about if nepal is hindu nation. all we care about is whats good for nation in the given time and situation. and you should remember the fact this decision wasnt just remember, it has been there for long time in communist agenda to make the nation secular state. maoist want it that way or even madhav wants it that way. so to come up with some kind of compromise something has to be given. its just the name attached to our country. declaring nepal as secular state doesnt change the fact that majority of ppl in nepal are hindu and we are free to practice our religion and our tradition. instead of worrying about what is labelled to our nation, worry about following your own hindu tradition . stop eating beef, dont be reluctant to tika and go for shopping. i have seen so many nepali folks dont keep up with hindu tradition , yet we see so much B.S about government decision to make it secular country. it is good , indeed very good . being non hindu nation , we dont need Vishnus (gyane other in line) to rule the nation.
think about it.. think hard.... whats in the name when you are free to practice anything you like. being proud among foreigners ..lets think about other ways ..
let me list some.
how about saying 99 percent of our population are literate.
how about saying it is very safe to visit our beautiful country
how about it is saying it is worth returning back and still be able to make a decent living there
how about saying our gdp is growing 5-6 percent a year.
how about making nepal advance in technology.
how about having programms to make our youth employed and busy so that noone has time for protest.

these things are something that will make us proud to be nepali.

jai nepal

To all the people who are against Nepal being a secular state, would you like it if Nepal is declared a Buddhist state ? No ! neither would you like it if America were to be declared a Christian state tomorrow. Infact you would be the first to protest such a move. You will create a huge hullabaloo against this undemocratic move. You will protest and argue putting forth points like equality, freedom and separation of church and state. I am appalled to see the hypocrisy and selfishness in these people. They are not happy about this wonderful transition that our nation is going through but solely concerned about Nepal no more being a Hindu nation. As Karmapa and deja blue stated, the label of Hindu nation never benifited anyone other then the select few in Nepal and India. To the majority of Nepales, oppressed for years and forgotten by the ruling elites in Kathmandu the concept of a Hindu nation does no benifit. People need education, employment and heath-care. They ned security, they need to be convinced that whenever someone steps out of the house, they will be back.
This is an oppurtunity for us to make a step in the right direction. Let us not be constrained by this issue of state religion, as it does no justice to the rest of the mass. Hindu religion with its principles and consistancy will still remain a majority and would still be a deciding factors in all laws or articles tabled in the parliament. Hinduism is not going to disappear, it hasn't in India after the hundreds of years of rule of the Mughals and british, definately not under a secular Nepal.

I agree with KTMEYE...i feel the same way. I just wish we could do something about it...I dont see the difference being a secular country or a hindu country....even when Nepal was a hindu country everything was alright...it was not like we ever had problems about religion...nobody ever fought about their religion....so i dont understand wut's the point of changing nepal into secular country.....wut difference is it gona make???...I used to feel proud to tell people tht Nepal is the only Hindu coutry in the world...but i guess i m not gona have that chance anymore...Well this is just my opinion, it's not like i understand politics or anything...i was just trying to tell ppl how i felt abt the situation with a little bit of knowledge that i have

@enigma.

>>> to all the people who are against Nepal being a secular state, would you like it if Nepal is declared a Buddhist state ?

That is really stupid question. Nepal does not figure out on this list for buddhist population. But it does in similar list for hinduism.
http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/history/bstatt10.htm

Would you ask these countries to be named hindu country or secular?

Buddhist Countries

Countries which recognize Buddhism as their official religion:

* Bhutan (Drukpa Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism)
* Cambodia (Theravada Buddhism)
* Kalmykia, a republic within the Russian Federation (Tibetan Buddhism - sole Buddhist entity in Europe)
* Thailand (Theravada Buddhism)
* Tibet Government in Exile (Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism)

BTW, UK also has official religion... but is considered champion in democracy and human rights.

Anglican

Jurisdictions which recognise an Anglican church as their state religion:

* England (as part of the greater United Kingdom) - Church of England

from : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_religion#Christian_countries

Also look what it says about hindu religion.....

Hindu Countries

There are no countries that explicitly recognise Hinduism as their official religion. In the Constitution of Nepal, however, the country was referred to as the "Hindu Kingdom", even though Hinduism was not mentioned as the state religion.

As of May 2006, Nepal was officially declared a secular state.

Vhootee,
i certainly agree with you.You have right to speak.and i respect your opinion.i feel the same way brother but this i feel is healthy dicussion. But what ticked me off was your hint towards our culture.I don't live in Nepal either and i do have regular job too.

Achievement is not everything implementing the achivement is.when we decide on something on the pressure from self interest groups. It may not always be wise decision.I have no plans to destroy public property neither i enourage anyone to do so.I am very liberal democrat .Saying that doesn't mean i do not respect my culture and religion.Time and method was the factor that i am not satified with one issue.

.I believe people should have right to choose and those MPs right now in parliaments more than half will not be re-elected.(if nepalese have some what brain left). There terms are already over.

And i think you should not have said"typical nepali mentality" cause people in sajah as far as my knowledge are educated socially and culturally though they tend to sometime use foul languages and act funny.
Peace my friend.

To all against hindu being offical religion:
we have seen that we do not agree in this topic and so many of us are educated. So guess what is going to be in villages.but what do you guys care you don't have to live there as one of my fren stated above.Congratulations this is your biggest gift for Nepal- religious violence and my fren believe it or not i am going to start donating money to Biswa hindu nepal .It is upto them how they are going to utilize. Many feel the same .it has intensified my beliefs and we need to preserve our religion.

wow Imi what a good thinking...
Well in a country where nearly 40 % of the population counts indegnious people, the development of hatred from janajati to bhramin and chettri,, it is clear that it will bring more extreme in both side iif again nepal is to be declared hindu state. Janajati origninally follower of buddhism, who follow both buddhism and hinduism, were getting extreme thinking dashain and tihar is not their religions, it is the fact if you have heard it or not.....it was happening when nepal was hindu sate also...
Make hindu sate, again the demand willl come to make secular state from other side, and we will see religions fight. You may say that nepal was good when there was hindu sate also but during that time there was growning extreme people against it........
you have been saying our country lost identity...well we can fight for religious thing and again nepal will have new identiy..i bet most people identify nepal as a country of mount everest and buddha than the only hindu country..isn't that two also unique identity of nepal where other county don't have .i don't understand why people are not ready to accept other religions equally...
if you guys feel to bad about it,then pressure your leaders to do voting for hindu sate, people will decide..or pressure them to take concesus.

To answer your question .I am not talking about reverting back and forth this issuelike football.I am just saying what SPA did not right thing and all Hindus should work to preserve their religious values. When Jews can why can't we??Like u said extereme brings extereme.Seeing that the only hindu country in the world has lost its name forever i cannot be happy.May be you can.

there was rise of Christianity in HINDU NEPAL!!!!. They give paracetamol and pretend that it is amrit from jesus.we are unfortunate that they are expoilting poor nepalese. Our Govt were always fighting with each other and didn't care about its people. But the religion that spreads lie among innocent villagers and for some money is right thing to do and THET WERE DOING IN HINDU COUNTRY!!!!!!!.did any one stop them. There were hardly any chruch now they openly preach Jesus.IN HINDU COUNTRY!!!i know how they spead christianity i studied in that school .were they able to convert me????????
muslims has mosque in the heart of ktm .IN HINDU COUNTRY!!!

FOR ALL JANJATIS OF NEPAL:
They are poor and uneducated .It is from one exploitation to another .No need to jump and be happy that nepal is secular country .It is sad to say this :your future is not so bright. Hindu never stoped u guys from convertiing into islam or christianity.U should jump when u over come poverty level.
Janjati were tied under one umbrella Hinduism.Don't say that it was forced.Force was when Muslims mogul forced to convert all hindus of india. Did hindu use that kind of force???????
So now what now all those Hindu Rai, Kirat, GUrung is going to be. They will all convert to buddism .???and tharu - what religion christians because they get money???
Saying janjati is 40% are all buddist is statement i don't agree with u.

It is definately sad to see that some Buddist are so much against Hindu and nepal being hindu .Where as they were considered most respectful under Hindu Country.they were always treated equal. thoses who think that all shakyas and Bajrachary are BUddist and in sensus they were interpreted might not be whole truth. Most of them practice both.

My question is what was wrong in the Name when there is more than 70% hindu?by law everyone was equal.Yes and now There will be more fight. Who gives right to SPA(corrupt, retarded and more over not real representative of Nepal as their time period has expired) to decide on sensitive issue like that????

Did i say 40 percent janajat is buddhist??? did you ever read my sentence properly..
What i said they originally followed buddhism and later on they followed both of them.
and the growing hatred among bahun and chettri have made them think they are not hindu they need to quit dashian and tihar...i told you they follow both...but some of them follow buddhism only..you have been blaming janajati being illetrate and poor..
how disgusting it is????? ,,,it was the demand from janajati people to make secular even beore maiost....
Make hatre between both of them, people like you can't see other religious equal and you make me think twice what to say about religious...in fact i am liberal........
make hindu state if you can...

The issue of religion should have been left by the politicians as is, because Nepal has never had a problem with religious extremism. Everybody took for granted the fact that Nepal was the world's only Hindu country. Did Buddhists have any problems with Nepal being the world's only Hindu country? Heck no, they did not. This issue opens up a whole knew pandora's box, which should have been left unopened. If you play with fire, expect to be burned. This will surely drive Hindus towards religious extremism. Have we had any problems with Hindu zealots, shiv senas, and the like in Nepal? Never!
Hindus are a dying breed! The religion does not make any room for proseletyzation, meaning that while many people have left the religion, nobody has entered into it, meaning that the number of Hindus are shrinking. What's left for Hindus to do? Breed like rabbits? Take arms and chase away people of other cultures/religions? It is tough being a Hindu in this world. We're a dying race. In India for example, the Muslim population is increasing by leaps and bounds, because their religion does not allow them to use condoms, while the Hindu population is just stagnant. We are just dying. In a couple of centuries, we will be as rare as pandas are rare today. Abrahamic religions like Christianity and Judaism lure credulous folks into their fold by offering these poor people money, by spewing vile nonsense about Hinduism, etc. Read some articles written by missionaries--they are salivating at the thought of converting people in Nepal! Take a good look at Korea(you know which Korea I am talking about, South Korea of course) and contrast it with Japan. Japan is still predominantly Buddhist/Shinto because Japan became a developed nation before missionaries were able to disseminate their teachings. Korea wasn't as lucky because they are one of those nouveau riche countries, and missionary work was in full bloom before Korea was able to do anything about their poverty problem. To sum it up: people convert in droves because they are poor, and missionaries know how to exploit this fact.

Bahuns, Chettris/thakuris and Madhesis combined make up more than 50% of Nepal's population. Hindus are definitely Nepal's majority, no matter how much the consensus has been manipulated by the authorities. What happened to the rights of the majority? I have never believed in organized religions in the past. Never did I visit the Pashupatinath temple when I was in Nepal, but I just feel that Hindus are a dying breed. We don't let people convert to our religion, while people are exiting out in droves. Buddhism *does* make space for conversion. There are tons of Westerners who are Buddhists--Richard Gere the most famous one. We are definitely dying. We don't allow people to convert. In 200 years, India and Nepal will be Islamic or Christian. It is an inevitability if the trend continues. We don't let people become Hindus. I think Hindus have to fight for their rights. There is no other way. We'll end up extinct otherwise.

"SECULAR NEPAL" IS BEST FOR ALL RELIGIONS, BUT MOSTLY FOR NEPALI HINDUS.

UNDER "HINDU NEPAL", THE NEPALI BRAND OF HINDUISM HAS LANGUISHED. IT HAS BEEN HIGHJACKED BY INDIA-BASED VHP, SHIVA SENA, AND BJP WITH THEIR STOOGES IN NEPAL AND WHAT NOT!

I DON'T FEEL PROUD TO SAY "NEPAL IS THE ONLY HINDU NATION IN THE WORLD"! THIS IS NOT A STATEMENT OF ACHIEVEMENT - IT IS A STATEMENT OF IMPOSITION, OF SUPREMACY.

I DO NOT EVEN SAY "NEPAL HAS THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN IN THE WORLD" (SO DOES CHINA) OR THAT "NEPAL IS THE BIRTHPLACE OF BUDDHA." THERE IS NO POINT IN RESTING ON ACCIDENTAL LAURELS. THIS IS LIKE LOSERS GRASPING AT A FLOATING STRAW THINKING IT WILL GIVE THEM SOME RESPECTABILITY. FALSE SENSE OF RESPECT SURE.

NEPAL NEEDS TO GROW UP. NEPAL NEEDS TO PUT SUPERIORITY OF ONE RELIGION OVER OTHERS BEHIND FOR GOOD, AND LOOK FOR OTHER KINDS OF ACHIEVEMENTS TO BE PROUD OF. YEAH LIKE, APPA SHERPA CLIMBING MOUNT EVEREST OVER A DOZEN TIMES AND SETTING A WORLD RECORD. LIKE SOME MAHATO GUY IN RUSSIA BECOMING VERY SUCCESSFUL AS AN ENTREPRENEUR. CELEBRATE GENUINE ACHIEVEMENTS - RATHER THAN IMPOSITION/SUPREMACY!

YOU THINK I FEEL PROUD TO SAY "NEPAL IS THE ONLY HINDU KINGDOM IN THE WORLD" WHEN I HAVE TO CLAMP MY NOSE EVERYTIME I CROSS THE KUPONDOLE-THAPATHALI BRIDGE.

WHEN SOMEBODY POINTED OUT TO ME, "BAGMATI IS NOT A RIVER, BUT A SEWER", I KNEW THIS IS WHAT "'HINDUISM" HAS BECOME UNDER 'HINDU NEPAL."

IT WAS AS IF THAT GUY HAD CRIED: "YEAH BUT THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES."

EAT THIS! "HINDU NEPAL" IS KILLING OFF HINDUISM. DALITS ARE FLEEING; CHRISTIANITY AND BUDDHISM ARE GAINING GROUNDS, THANKS TO THE SPACE CREATED FOR THEM BY THE 1946 MOVEMENT. "ONLY HINDUS MAY ENTER" IS NOT MAKING TOURISTS/TRAVELLERS HAPPY. HINDUISM IS ATTRACTING PRIMARILY THE WESTERNERS WHO ARE INTO GANJA, HASH, DHATURO - NOT SPIRITUALITY. UNDER "HINDU NEPAL", HINDUISM HAS DEGENERATED.

YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY?

INDIA-BASED FUNDAMENTALIST HINDU ORGS AND HINDUS AND THEIR STOOGES IN NEPAL (PALACE, BHARAT KESHARI SINGH, THIS SUBEDI GUY OF SHIVA SENA NEPAL) ARE NOT INTERESTED IN HINDUISM OR THE UPKEEP OF HINDU SYMBOLS (TEMPLES, RIVERS, ETC), THEY ARE INTERESTED IN HINDUISM AS A TOOL TO STAY IN POWER AND ENRICH THEMSELVES. HINDUISM FOR THEM IS A STEPPING STONE. A MEANS TO AN END. PASHUPATI NATH HAS BECOME A POSTERBOY OF CORRUPTION, GREED,
SINS, CHAKRIBAD, CONTROL OF PASHUPATI NATH BY INDIAN SHANKARACHARYAS (WITH NEPALI HINDU PRIESTS HAVE TO PLAY SECOND FILLES TO THEM). UNDER "SECULAR NEPAL", THE POSITIONS OF THE FUNDAMENTALIST HINDUS WILL BE CONSIDERABLY WEAKENED.

THEREFORE, "SECULAR NEPAL" MAKES GOOD SENSE FOR THE NEPALI BRAND OF HINDUISM IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE.
