Trailokya
I think its suffice to say that my interest in Chinese is all about ordering the right food :). Alik intelligently heryo bhaney, its the biggest cultural aspect of the chinese therefore, I feel my interest in the lingo is justified (according to your points of why a person should learn a language!)
Thanks for the tips.
Go on...

here's what they saY:

You are bautiful- Ni hao kan.
If you really want to impress the girl then:
Ni hen piao (piaono-ko- piao jastai) liang

ajhai impress garne ho bhane:

Wo xiang ni hen piao liang, ni gen zhang zi yi yi yang!!! (advcd. speakers, how does this sound?)

now, to say you are handsome:

Ni hen suai (i have heard many taiwanese use it, don't know what's the exact word in mainland chinese)

Ajhai impress garne ho bhane:

Ni hen ke ai (ka kha ko kha, aaye)- You are cute

Ni zhen hao kan aa! ( you really are GOOD looking)

OK, I have already posted the pronouciation keys in the earlier threads. Go back to those, and learn pronounciation. Don't worry about tones at this stage.

xianzai wo xiang wo de "mon amour":-)

Qing ai de "mon amour"

Wo xiang ni, wo ai ni. wo xiang ni shi, shi jie de zui piao liang de nu ren, zhen de! ruguo ni bu xin wo, ni ke yi wen.. ke yi wen...bie ren...wo zhi dao mei ge nan ren xi huan ni, ai ni.. ke shi..ni ai wo, suoyi, wo hen HEN hen gao xing aa!

(love letter in Chinese fo those of you dating a chinese girl:-)/ or a chinese looking, cute girl from Nepal:-) Hey, YUE, narisa hai.

[This is a thread to learn Chinese and to discuss stuffs related to China. If this is boring, dry, jharko-lagne, then you might as well click on other threads, because I know how hard it gets to people who are not interested in the language/culture to go through this thread. believe me, I undeerstand your problems.. Yes, its a real torture, but there are few people who are into Chinese and this being a democratic forum want to disucss, learn, share their knowledge here. Again, a reminder: This can get quite boring and irritating if you are not into language learning. So accept my sincere apologies and click on their threads. There are some really interesting discussions going on, those might help you over come the boredom]

****************************************
Dear all curious learners:

Sorry about this delay in replying to you guys' queries:

Now, to someone who asked me where/when I studied Chinese:

I studied Chinese in China for 4 months. I went there as a study abroad student and my program had affiliation with Hua Dong Shi fan Da Xue (East China Normal University, Shanghai). I went there without any prior knowledge of Chinese, and when I returned back to the US, I continued my studyy of China and Chinese language, history and politics. And thanks god that I had the oppurtunity to study with some really great profs. at a small school in the middle of nowhere, which influended my thinking and I added a second major of Chinese Studies to my already existing major.

This is my background. And my Chinese isn't that good. I hope this satisfies someone who was wondering as to where/when/how long I studied in China.

Biswoji, and others, you guys have spent more time in China and speak better Chinese than me, and time permitting please post some stuffs relating to labguage, culture, history and politics to this thread. So, that people can learn not only the language but also the culture of our immediate neighbor to the north. This is a request.

Now, getting back to other queries:

I don't know how to say, have a nice day in Chinese. Some phrases of English can not be translated into other languages, and as far as my little knowledge of the language goes.. I don't think they have something like have a nice day in Chinese. But, I guess you can say, ni you hao tian or just hao tian aa! (aa is pncd. aamako aa). Again, this is a translation and don't blame me if your chinese friend thinks you are weird when you say this to him/her.

About, you have big breasts!

makardhowj ji, you mentioned that you studied Chinese in Japan, so, just try playing with the words.. construct a sentencee and you'll get it. Biswoji, probably knows the exact tranlsaion to this, so I request you to pass this question to biswoji, or our own gangster dai, da ge ji (gangsters know more words code words and common words than we ordinary people do:-), hoina ta da ge ji.

Totally irrelevant to those not interested:

da-ge xian sheng ye bishwo xian sheng , ruguo wo shuo, aa! kan kan , na nu ren de liang ge bao, da da (second da to stress) de (wo de shu, de "de") :-), keyi ma?

Wo yi jing wang le wo de hanyu. Ruguo nimen gei wo fu xi, wo xiang wo hui shuo hao hao de.

Trailokya

Although I am a self claimed Da Ge. I honestly don't how they say timro bubu thulo chha in chinese. I can think several biological words but they don't sound very catchy. Well, I guess I did not learn chinese as well as I thought I did. But, TAji your translation sounds pretty good to me.

For others:

Yes learning chinese and living in China was one of the most memorable time of my life both while working and going college. I grew so much, learnt so much from my chinese classmates, teachers, foreign students. It was eye opening experience.

China, with its ancient civilization and morden mystique, is certainly an attractive destination for foreigners, specially for us Nepali. Despite its proximity, Nepali academia lacks the basic knowledge of china, chinese civilizaion and its people. I don't know if it is because of the giant mountains and vast plateu that seperate us from china or its mysteriousness that makes it hard for scrutiny. Whatever the cause is, our well being lies understanding chinese culture, language, politics and its people. Because, to be a good neighbor, mutual understanding is a must. Mutual understanding means we know them and they know us.

China is much more than communism, Maoism and the Khasa-imported-goods we buy in night market. It is a civilization that has developed over few millennia. It is a country with area 69 times bigger than Nepal with 1.2 billion people. It is mix of many different nationality from tibetan, korean, han to Ugyur of north west. It is a civilization that has seen many properous times. It is also a civilization which has seen terrible famine, flood, massacre, fire, destruction, any thing you name it. It is a civilization which gave the world money, paper, gun powder and the principle modern rockets, firecrackers and many other things. Yet, inspite of these reasons it is mystery to us. Nepal had few hadrendezvous with China in battelfields. Mainly when they recue Tibet and help them to win wars. But there are few institute that study chinese cultures, chinese language, chinese politics compared to institutes that study our southern neighbor.

As chinese economical, political and military might in the world arena grows, the need for us to understand them becomes even greater. Hope, in coming days, we will not stay idle while it comes to understand our northern neighbor and miss the great oppuritinities to do good for us and for them while establishing a mutually understanding friendly relation.
