First of all, don't get wrong idea from my name. I know some of you here are expert in Canadian permanent residency process. I am just about to apply for it as skilled worker at Buffalo center, and I need your help.. please.

Right now, I am going through Appendix of checklist, and I found a few things confusing.

Proof of English:
I got my bechelor's degree and master's degree in the U.S. What is that, written submission of detailing your trainning, in and use of, English?
Official documentation of education in English? Don't education certificates from the US universities prove my English proficiency?

Police certificate and clearances:
I have been in the US about 10 years. I have a recent police report from Nepal... Now how am I supposed to get one from the US? I didn't understand this part: submit original fingerprints directly to the authorieis conducting the police checks? Can somebody elaborate on this part? I would really appriciate this.

Sukul Gunda,

For persons in your status, issue of English is a subjective one dependent on the discretion of the officer who is studying your file. The requirement is that for anyone who aspires to be a Canadian PR but whose first language is neither of English or Frensh needs to prove that he can communicate efficiently in one of those languages (English or French). This proof can be a formal langugage test like TOEFL, IELTS etc for English and similar tests for French. Regarding your case

You have gotten your undergrad and grad degrees from USA, which sufficiently proves that you already have proved it. So, I would recommend that you do not submit anything at the beginning, but, write a cover-letter kind of thing and add explanatory notes in a point-wise fashion (e.g. for #5.b Language Requirement, I have such and such ... degrees from bla bla univ which sufficiently assers that my skills in comprehensioni in the English language confirm to my claims in the respective section...like that). If you had a TOEFL before you got admissions in your undergrad in the US, submit a copy, the validity of TOEFL as against a 2-yr window is irrelevant.

In their list of countries, they recommend that you are NOT supposed to submit the police report from nepal at the beginning when u make the application. See the list in the Appendix. They will correspond to you when to submit the reports. Regarding the FBI thing too, I believe they will send you a "request form" which you fill in and submit to the FBI along with your finger prints --- but confirm this part, this is the case when u apply from Canada, not sure from USA though. This normally happens after 4 months of when u file in Buffalo, NY. At the same time, they will also ask for your medical exam and reports too.

Meantime, Canada is a great country. However, it is of a socialist nature and society is above the individual, in terms of your earnings too. One will never be rich but one will also never be poor, the policy is not to let the gap between the poor and the rich widen and not to let the society stratify as such. We have a vibrant movement going on against the racial discrimination of marijuana and we need people like yourself to succeed in our decent movement of decreminilizing pot. FYI, some details are available at,

Sukul Gunda,
When I applied when they ask for a proof of english: as long as you have a degree from US that should be sufficient and about your police report when you turn in your application to Buffalo they will sent you a copy that will ask you to go to FBI and take your Fingerprint. It costs you 25 dollars and you need to go to Local FBI office in your area and you will get that information mailed to you in a month and they will sent a copy directly to buffalo too. So its an easy process. If they didn't receive full paperwork they won't reject your application instead they will sent you a reminder to sent them required document but it causes a delay in your processing time.
Please don't hire a lawyer.

Shree and Himalaya...
Thanks for replying. I really appriciate. That means, do I need to write a cover letter, accompanied with education certificates?

I understood about FBI fingerprint. But, I have a poilce report from Nepal, even though I have been living in the US for ten years. Do I need to submit that now or later?? I think it's only valid for 6 months.

Thanks again.

when you say accompanied with your diploma hope you mean Xerox copy of your diploma and also sent them a copy of your resume along with your employer contact number. They might verify that too. Sent your police report in the beginning to avoid delay in your processing time

sukul,

Writing a cover letter also avails you with a means of providing them explanations whenever you wanted to add a footnote to their "IM_ Form". I myself did that too.

DO NOT submit the Nepalese police report now; for 2 things- (1) they have clearly asked NOT TO in their list of countries in the appendix which might consequence in further unwanted speculation by them (2) nepal police keeps on changing the format and the tap of issue of these certificates, if you give them the certificate now and when they look into it (they wont study or grade-point it immediately now because they will have been instructed not to- hence the notice in the appendix) if there are disparity in format or etc, then your case will be SIGNIFICANTLY delayed, as has been with some folks here.

Meantime, to learn about the ongoing great revolution in Canada, I recommed you visiting this link

Regarding Canadian PR, is it advisable to use a Canadian lawyer or do it on your own? The lawyer charge on average 1500 US dollars. Landing fee is all extra. Any opinioins??

SukulgundaBro:
I also applied on my own. For English, you do not have to take the test if you graduated in the US. You just have to submit a written document detailing you have enough proficiency in English. I did it for me as I graduated from an English speaking country as well. If you need what I submitted as a sample, post your email and I will send it to you..

Katmandude:
I am not a lawyer but how about you pay me 50% of what you would pay a lawyer and I will get it done for you... It's just so f..king easy that you've gotta be pretty dumb not to be able to do it yourself.

Thanks for your responses. I was planning to do it myself but some people suggested that I go through a lawyer. That is why I investigated what was involved in retaining a lawyer.

Guys know the website address to download the forms. The forms I have may not be uptodate.

thanks!

Kathmandude,
My opinion ( no need to argue with anyone) I didn't like it after living in US for 5 years. I did have a decent job ( same thing I do in USA now) but too much taxes plus Toronto is way too expensive. you guys might think Health is Free but It was before but not anymore. Its like buying an insurence through your work in the USA. now you go to pay certain amount,Depends upon your Income Bracket. My suggestion if you can settle leggaly here stay here.

Peace
