Hi guys,
I got citizenship (USA) recently and planing to visit nepal soon. I am thinking to apply for nrn citizenship in nepal. I have some questions:
1 should i apply visa to get into nepal or not?
2 i have some properties (some land and stocks ) in nepal. After getting nrn citizenship i should tranferthe properties to new citizenship? I am confused how it works.

Thanks

I actually went to the District Administration Office, Kathmandu yesterday to inquire about this. Good thing is they actually have a window for NRN citizenship where you can submit the forms and apply. Also, there are two forms you need to fill out which you can get from Room 125 (one for giving up your original & second for applying for a new citizenship).

Steps:
1. Give up your previous citizenship
This process seemed very time consuming. You need:
* original nepali citizenship & Nepali passport
* US passport/Naturalization certificate (for US citizens)
* Police report - you need to go to police station to get this & need 5 people to verify that you are not a criminal
* Certification from your ward
* Dad's nagarikata (someone submitted mom's nagarikata and they were having heated argument about it, officials were not accepting mom's nagarikata)
* Passport size photos with both ears showing

2. Apply for new citizenship
I asked a person who was submitting a completed application with ward verification/police report and he said it took him about 7 days.

So I gave up the idea. Hopefully, next time I am in Nepal, the process is less time-consuming.

How do I attach pictures to the comment?

Dang, i dont know 5 people in Nepal anymore who would vouch for me..and this is to renounce ctzp too.so if someone has criminal record they can't renounce, but at the same time they are not a Nepali citizen either since they have foreign passport. What a contradiction.

ehho2, either they will run history since birth time until you were Nepali nagarikta holder or it is one way to generate income for govt as fee associated with police report.

NRN Nagarikta Facebook public forum discussion group.

Paradox,
Yes, you do need a Nepali visa to go to Nepal. If you go to Nepal without a visa, they will not let you come back. They will check your US passport at the airport on your way back to the USA. You will be charged for entering the country without a Nepali visa.

I just called Mr. SAROJ Dahal ji from The list of numbers. He is very helpful and genuine person and have been engaged in Nrna ctzp battle from the beginning.
According to him.
1. No need to bring 5 people to police station. Your ward can do it for you alobg with their recommendation letter.
2. It's much easier in ktm now a days as a lot of people have already applied
3. You wont need visa once you have this nagarikta for the future visits.
4. People have already sold land using this ctzp.
5. There is also act coming up for this nagarikta and it will be widely accepted and things will be much easier for nrns in the future. That will happend very soon.he said once sansad opens.
6. The new nagarikta will have reference of the old nagarikta number so u wont have to update anywhere like mal adda etc.
7. He said, If we have any question, he would be more than happy to help us in Nepal for NRN ctzp.

Why can't NRNA create one FAQ document so that everyone will benefit from the docs?

Paradox, yes you can get the visa at the airport but it saves a lot of time if you go to https://nepaliport.immigration.gov.np/ , then visa prior to approval - entry point TIA, enter your info and get a qr code. Then you can go straight to the banking counter, pay and proceed to immigration.

Ehho2, thanks for sharing your experience with the hotline. I was being half facetious with my earlier comments as I had not received responses to my emails to NRNA, but it seems like you had a good phone call with one of their contacts.

Paradox, make sure you carry $$ not Nrs to pay for visa fee. I believe they take only foreign currency beside Nrs.

Sajal ji,
It's no problem. Honestly i called those hot line numbers with very little faith myself. I think ,It was Sheer luck that Dahal ji picked up and talked to me. There was also another person i called before Dahal ji from the list of numbers who did not answer at all.

From what i have gathered this is not a dedicated help desk kinda thing located somwhwere with agents wearing headsets in a call center kind of enviroment. It's people who have volunteered to be contacted if someone has a question from their home or work etc not sure why they saif 24 7 lol. May be we should call them at 2 am their local time to test that sometimes, just kidding.

I have also heard that you need to go the same distrct headquater to renounce the Nepali citizenship wherever you got the citizenship at the first place. Is that true?
and about the police report, last time I checked, getting police report is very easy as everything is online and sometimes you can get the report within few minutes.

sajalshakya, thanks for information. $50 for 30 day thats pretty expensive lol . India has $30 for one year why nepal so expensive. So i can take 1 month visa then make nepali citizen ship or should opt for 3 months ($120)?
