What stocks are you buying tomorrow as dowjones lost 630+ points today?  Are you planning to still wait?

These are in my watchlist:

MRK - Merck
INTC - Intel
WM - Waste Management
SO - Southern Company
NLY - Annaly Capital
PEB - Pebblebrook Hotel Trust
KO - Coca Cola
BAC - Bank of America Corp.
GE - General Electric
PG - Procter and Gamble

Any thoughts on these?

the cup and handle pattern on EOG has already failed with the market collapse last week and the break out has already failed...
for short term resistance around early hundreds ...but still should have some upside but not 50%  and friday's candle doesn't look so good

just my opinion

 anon,

I got my 1099.  I went through the document and it shows I made certain transactions in 2009.  However, it does not have info such as my initial balance, end balance, profit/loss.  I guess i was expecting something showing my end balance sheet.  Can I just send 1099 with schedule D form?  if I do, it is same information IRS provided me indicating that I owe tax for certain amount while in reality I lost money.  I am little confused here.  I appreciate your suggestion.

Thanks.

just a wee bit, tyranny   15.44% gain so far on DRYS.

I am thinking I should diversify and get a REIT in my portfolio... nice cheap one that pays dividends like bonkers (what the heck is bonkers anyway?)... got any suggestion?

@nepali_american
DRYS  was indeed a killer and the chart definitely looking bullish short term  ..10 % tomorrow??? beating myself up for not buying thursday

I had no idea whatsoever what REITs were until u mentioned it  and I am really glad u mentioned..everyday u learn something new ...
anyways I was looking around and I found these two

FUR....crashed with the market to oversold levels,  fat bottom candle today should dip tomorrow or in a couple of days , for buying opportunities ..coming off of oversold levels ..dont know how much dividends they pay ..didn't really look into it

OLP was in a nice uptrend till the crash last week, coming off of it now , probably gonna gap up and tank a little tomorrow  and should present buying opportunities

u should really stop by my blog,  pass me some ideas on my scans on fundamentals ....

www.nepscanmaster.blogspot.com/

will sure appreciate it

 Tyranny,

It's cool that you have a blog dedicated to your stocks.  Impressive.  What are your criteria for choosing those stocks.

To be honest, being a relative novice when it comes to investments, I can only guess what you mean when you guys talk about cups and handles and candles and whatnot.  So there is much for me to learn.

In last 10 days, I bought AA, WM, PEP,  AXP, MMM, HON and DRYS.  As you can see, except for the last one, which was my speculative play, all my stocks are large cap with relatively low beta.  I picked them after studying their balance sheet, cash flow statements, analyst estimates, and where they stand in 52 weeks range.  That's pretty much all I know.  I should probably learn what you guys call technicals, fundamentals, momentums, etc.  How do you do it?

If there is a pullback today, I will be in a hunt.  If you are doing the same, happy hunting.

Bought some Aflac Insurance AFL today at $37.  It's supposed to do well, the numbers look good and the analyst estimates are decent; though Cramer was recommending against it.  My Honeywell HON stocks took the tumble today though.

Tyranny, regarding REIT, I checked on the two you mentioned, FUR and OLP, as well as AGNC, CYS, CIM and NLY.  Among all those, I think Annaly Capital NLY is the right pick.  It has the largest market cap, highest revenue and most asset.  Turns out you own REIT for dividends, not for the stock price increase, as they tend to not fluctuate much.  NLY provides 14.5% dividend... decent... (AGNC's dividend yield is the highest at 19%).

Talking about dividend, there's this British Utility called International Power - IPRPY.PK - which has the div yield of whopping 32.77% .  What does .PK mean in the ticker symbol?  Can you guys take a look and let me know what you think?  Thanks.

Well, tomorrow is supposed to be a pullback.  Good buying opportunity.

.pk,.ob means pinksheet(otc, pennystock all that high risk stuff) the company was probably delisted from the big boards ...

I lean more towards trading than investing ..but if you were to buy a dividend paying stock please do consider buying after the company pays the dividends (10 - 20 days as i see on most charts) when the price dips and the uptrend starts again till the next dividend payment) and also consider splits in the history as well as the future

I did not know .pk stands for pink sheet.  Good to know.  Thanks.

So, are you a day trader?  Do you do this for your living?  I wish I could do that rather than being in a rat race trying to get one rung up the corporate ladder.

 @Tyranny:

Checked out your blog.  Good stuff there.  But did not accept my comment for some reason, tried several times.

I like the general profiles of all the companies you mentioned above, except LF as I can't imagine their sales on steady growth anymore due to the mushrooming of apps.  Will have to look into these more in detail.

I need to learn how to trade small caps.  Seems like a good money maker.  But one has to watch the trading cost, it can add up.

Cheers.

Thanks Nepali_American,

 LGFTY.  Wow!!

52 wk high @ 42, previous close 19, now at 0.80.

Whoever shorted this stock is now a millionaire.

With CFO and Deloitte resigning, sounds super risky, but then it is at 80 cents.

Here are mine. My picks were biased hoping to see a stable performance on the global market, and I want to believe that energy stocks will double in 10 years. Gold is on my wishlist but right now it's too expensive to buy.

I didn't have much of a formula, just looked at market cap and performance for last few years and future growth potential. And try to diversify in different sectors.

Good stuff Sarika.  Where have I heard that name?  Is it a celebrity name?

Lot of them are nice dividend paying stocks.  Just make sure you buy them at the low end.  Tyranny gave a good advice in his post earlier: buy those stocks couple of weeks after they pay dividends.

I too bought some AAPL yesterday at $363.
