Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, Nov 18 - The government has started monitoring the sale of alcoholic beverage in the market in municipality areas as the directives prepared for its proper management in market is effective from Tuesday. Now, only licensed sellers can trade in liquor.

According to the directives, it is illegal to sell alcoholic products without license in the urban areas. Also, the new policy has disallowed groceries to sell of the alcoholic products.

Now licensed traders can sell the alcoholic products from 10 am to 10 pm only. And, persons under 18 years of age are not allowed to purchase the liquor.

Meanwhile, sellers have said that setting up a separate shop for liquor only—as the new policy provisions— is impractical, and asked the government for consideration.
