Hello everyone, Is it true that if I send my original Nepali citizenship card with application for MRP, the embassy will return my old (current) passport once they verify it? Do I need to apply for temporary passport or not? I tried to call the people in embassy but had to leave a voice message. Any inputs on this regard will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

These embassy people are a..ss..holes. I sent the complete package to embassy -- original copy of everything. I had to spend around 25 dollars because return tracking can only be done if it is express shipping. Those mofos returned back my application saying the printed area on paper is not right (it was only a small difference) and mistakenly i had left one field empty for passport details. They had my original passport. I heard we can renew passport in New York. Is it open on Saturday too? Thanks.

@Sirak, yes, they typically send back the old passport if you request and send the prepaid envelope. You may want to apply for temporary passport only if you are planning to travel within 1-4 months of MRP application and your current passport has expired or expiring soon. If you are not planning to travel, no need to apply for temporary passport.

Thanks ny2. My passport is "valid" through 2017 i.e. it's not expiring soon. Just needed to have MRP. @ jhapaliketo: wish they would do better.

@sirak, after November 2015 our paper passport will not be valid for any international travel. Of course we can use as id though.

@SIRAK I sent my application with all original documents (passport and citizenship certificate) with prepaid envelope separate for returning the citizenship certificate. Leave a note inside the return envelope stating that please send me back my citizenship certificate in this envelope after verification. I sent it last month and just received my citizen certificate today in the mail. You can do either priority or express. I did priority coz it cost only $6 compared to $20 express via usps. Its just a matter of 2 days.
