June 8, 2012 By: sarina

The much awaited Euro 2012 is going to kick off on June 8, 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.  The Euro fever has not only spread in the Europe, it has also gripped the K-town. The strings with participating nations’ flags hung in the alleys of Kathmandu by the local clubs have not only made the alleys colorful but also have boosted the festive mood. Local clubs are gearing up to stream live tournaments in public places. Thanks to the technology, we will be watching live tournaments cheering for our favorite team miles away from the stadium. No matter which part of the world you are in, if you have technological access, you can enjoy the game as if you were in the stadium.

Discussions about the tournament started floating in social networking sites weeks back.  Likewise, football fans have also created pages in social networking sites to support their favorite teams. A multinational company recently launched its global integrated marketing campaign for the Euro 2012. Hence the Euro heat is rising gradually day by day.

According to Union of European Football Associations, the participating nations in the Euro 2012 are as follows:

Group A: Poland, Greece, Russia, Czech Republic

Group B: Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Portugal

Group C: Spain, Italy, Republic of Ireland, Croatia

Croup D: Ukraine, Sweden, France, England

As usual, this time too I am cheering for my favorite team Spain. Bets are illegal, so I am opting for chocolates and ice-creams treat with my friends. Spain has won me chocolates and ice-creams in the past (Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010) and this time too I am eagerly eying to win the treats. Even my final exam could not stop me from watching the final match in the previous World Cup. I vividly remember how I woke up the whole night to cheer my favorite squad (though only in front of the television) despite of having my final Board exam the next day.

Shouting ‘gooooaaallll’ till the voice turns hoarse and waking up the neighbors in the midnight gives a special joy while watching the match. With all eyes centered on the football, every single second in 90 minutes turns thrilling. The beauty of this game Is, it unites all the people. It doesn’t care about any boundaries; it raises fraternity and brotherhood amongst all. The unity of the players leads the team to accomplish success. The game depicts the clear message:’United we stand, divided we fall’. Especially we Nepalese should learn the unity tactics from this game.

Viva la Copa de Europa!
