 Hello sajha-ites,

I am currently reassessing my decision to become an electronic engineer. I am beginning my research by first looking for information on the following. I have a decent interest in electronic engineering but these things also matter to me. Does anybody have ideas on the following? What is the best way to get reliable information on these?

Potential locations: US, Nepal, India.

- How easy is it to get a job?
- How satisfied are engineering graduates with their jobs?
- How stressful is the actual task?
- How often do engineers have to work at home besides the 8 hours?
- How much do engineers salary rise every year? Or what does the rise depend on?
- How secure is an engineers job?
- What kind of lifestyle does an engineer have in US, Nepal and India?
- How hard is it for an engineer to adapt to new technology and learn for life?
- Do a lot of engineers switch careers? what are the careers to which switching from engineering is easy?
- What are the problems engineers of today face?
- what are the job prosepects in 5 years?

Thanks,
pinpoint

Lots of electronics job, specifically in semiconductor technology, has migrated to Asia. There still are companies here in US but getting a job won't be very easy in this field. You might want to consider doing Electronic engineering with IT; or Electrical/Electronic engineering. Do more research as I am not the expert in the field.

I am also on the same boat. However, I am thinking of getting a degree in mechanical and alternative energy field. Anyone have idea about its scopes, and how secure is the future in this field??

HappySharma,

That link was pretty helpful. Thanks.

What did you change your career to? Was it difficult for you to get a good EEjob?

Dear pin,

If you like to learn and contribute to humanity, then any engineering profession has been decently stable since Newton's time.

It takes 4 years to complete an engineering degree, Be assured that no engineering field will collapse in 4 years. So go for what you like.

Some can easily change their field because engineering college gives them a very broad scientific knowledge.

Strictly my opinion.
