Can anybody advise on how to travel from Bhadrapur Airport to the border at Kakkarbhitta?  What are the options on transportation arrangements? How long does it take?  How much does a taxi (reserved vehicle) ride cost?

Also, what's the customs like over there?

Any suggestion will be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

 Thanks JT.

It has been more than a decade since I have last been through Kakkarbhitta border and I have never been to Bhadrapur, hence, the question. Things must've changed quite a bit.

I will be traveling with my family, which includes two little kids. This means the bus option is not open for us. Last thing I need is couple cranky children during travel.

Any additional suggestion and/or information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Take a taxi, The distance is about 20Km and will take you 25-30 min.

I have no idea about fare though, Rs 2000... A wild guess....Taxi drivers may start bargain from Rs 5000, looking at your kids, thinking you will definitely take taxi....

Range is from Rs 500 to Rs 700 one way. Try to bargain to 500, if nothing works out then 600, last resort 700. Thats normal fare, and 550 is how much I paid 10 days ago. When you get off the plane, just make sure you dont travel via birtamode, thats long way, talk to airport staff, you can even get a tempo that would take you half way upto dhulabari or somewhere, and from there to kakkarvhitta from another means. But hiring a taxi will be peace of mind. It will take around 15/20 mins approximately. You can get taxi for 2000/2500 upto Dharan from Kakkarvhitta so Jangali manab it doesnt cost that high price from bhadrapur to kakkarvhitta.

Thank you Jangali Maanab, Dharane Kancha and Bairagi Kailo.

We are visiting Darjeeling.  My uncle is coming to pick us up at the border, I guess they don't allow cars with Indian plates to cross over to Nepal side.  Kakarbhitta is one option, Pashupatinagar is another.  I think latter is too far for a taxi ride, don't you?

Anyway, your inputs are much appreciated.

There should be plenty of taxi at bhadrapur airport. I would suggest be the last passenger to exit the airport so you get a better deal.
Fare will be around 500.

I dont see any reason why your Uncle cannot come to bhadrapur airport with his Indian plates vehicle. He can pay the custom fees for one day and get a green licence plate which should cost less than 500.

Good Luck.

You do not have to worry about the means of transporation from bhadrapur to kakarbhitta. You have plenty of options. But the best is taxi. You can hire a taxi at around 700 NRs. Bargain and do not give a slightest hint you are coming from USA. It takes around 20 to 25 min from BDR to KVT if you take the route of chandragadhi -charali- kakarbhitta. Do not go via Birtamode, that's a longer route. If you have any other query ask here I am more than happy to answer them....      Bon Voyage !!!

I know for sure that they allow Indian plate cars. Just have to pay a little at the entry point. I was there in Jhapa 2 yrs ago and did Sikkim-Birtamod quite a few times in an indian plate car during my two months stay. No worry, Just tell your uncle to pick u up at the airport.

Best option:

1. Ask your uncle to get Bhansar clearence at the border for his Indian number plate car if he is coming upto KKB. It costs around NRs 480 for a day and takes about 10 mins. The office is right after the Nepal police post gate on the RHS. After getting the paper the car will be provided with a temp Nepali no. plate on the way. The no. will be give after you leave KKB town. The roadside police post will provide that. The post is on the LHS of the road (I think it is before you reach Dhulabari, not too sure about this though).

sgy lai Darjeeling, Gorkhaland ma Swagat Chha.

Another option,
2. There are plenty of taxis on the taxi rank at the airport. They charge fixed fare of Nrs 900 for reserve. If you willing to share, you should tell the driver to get more passengers. In this case you have to wait till the car is full with 4 passengers. The journey could take upto 45 mins depending on the car. They use Maruti van mostly on this route.
