As you have requested to speak honestly, you are right!! But if this thought comes to you before you left Nepal, would you still come over here and study? I don't know, do you feel regret or are you looking for excuse?

I tell you honestly. Very few people do "मरि-मेटी पढ्ने" when they go to USA. Most of the people run after money rather than being serios in study.

I agree that money is required for study. But people are more serious in "घण्टा हान्ने" than in study.

Money comes money go.... but you have to remember the fact that family value is the most important thing. Here in America, you have no social life and no family values. You run for money without thinking about yourself. You have to think about bills, credit card, health insurance and what not. After coming to america and after starting to make some money, people starts to forget how small things  can make them happy. Do you remember, how you used to be happy when your father bought a new Chinese tv ?? Price didnt matter back then. The thing what matters was the time we spend together as being a family watching that tv. But here in USA you wont be happy with these kinds of small things. You will need a big LCD tv to make every one happy.

And one more thing, I dont think that its wise to compare salary between Nepal and USA. What i think is that money is relative to the country. Making $5000 in a mont here in USA can be roughly equal to making Rs 20000/Rs 30000 in Nepal. Ofcourse you wont have a hi-fi life style like here in USA but you would surely have a decent life compared to Nepali standard.

Money is not the only factor that we should consider before making any decision weather to stay here in USA or move back to Nepal. Is it really worth it to raise your children over here? If you raise your children here, it is very likely that the child will adapt the norms of the society. No matter how hard you push, there is a strong chance that your child will grow up to be an American American not an Neplease American. I'm not saying that it is bad to be raised in American but having roots in Nepal, our family values are greater than any other thing. Will your child take care of you when you grow old? It is more likely that you'll end up in Nursing homes. And one more thing, will you be comfortable that by the time your child gets 16 he/she will already have 16 dates. Think about it.

Just remember, no matter how much money you make, no matter how much respect you get in your circle, u'll still be called amigo or muslims by Americans. You dont have white skin. There will always be some obstacle for you just because of you skin color.

I think the most wise thing to do will be to make some money after graduation by getting a job or if not "ghanta hanera nai bhaye pani 2/3 yr ma ta 20000/30000 minimum bani halcha ni". Then head back to nepal. After all "ban ko chari ban mai ramaucha".

Gafadi ko Gaaff!!!!!  You have a choice, nobody is holding you before and nobody is holding you now. Greed is what holds you, after all. I speak my mind with honesty. Thank you.

what holds me here is freedom. that sounds trite, let me explain. yaha dukha gare pani sukha gare pani , i dont have to explain it to anyone. i can work all i want, or drink all i want, i might make a lot of mistakes but at least i wont blame it on my peers and family.
at least my mind is free here in us.

@rockey,
I will do anything for my kid to have 16 dates before they are 16.

asides from that, you are right about skin color. even if many of us hold respectable jobs here, there always some form of discrimination. tara nepal ma matrai discrimination nabhayeko bhaye po. Some of us might come form upper class families back in Nepal, so Nepal gayo discrimination bata mukti! this is not true for all of us.

In my opinion epecially related to this issue: Here's where you have to think about your priority. If money is your objective, then i honestly suggest to stay here. But if you are looking towards doing something for your country with average level lifestyle, then Nepal could be good too. One idea that has attracted me recently is about working here, but go and contribute some back in our country on vacation, make time for that. Even better if you can start a side business back home. I think some one from our community here is Sajha went back on vacation and established a Wine selling business in kathmandu, i wonder how is he/she doing..

I agree with you. The discrimination still exist largely in America. When you step out of the door people will start seeing your color, race, call you a nigga, chinaman, Arab, Indian, etc, etc. You can clearly read their head what they mean to. Some people literally curse at you and if they don't find anything to tell against you then they will say "this is America. .... blah blah blah."

They called white house because administration was dominated by Whites. Now Obama is in white house and Blacks are dominating the people with other races. Do you remember a Harvard so-called professor acting a true racist over an officer that simply was doing his job? then how Obama reacted quickly?

There is a discrimination on every street of America. The American owned business never hire other races at first place. If they do, it is only some blue color jobs on the street. or If you have a high-level degree. Comparing to that the white do not have to have high level degree. They think they can simply work and smarter than other people in the world. In fact they are not. They don't want your brain to use. They ask you to use their brain in the corporate offices or anywhere else.

So my opinion is obviously home country is always better place to live and spend life.

Thanks.

Rockey 07,

Yes you are right to some extend. I am not saying I am 100% agree with you. But here is the thing. We all are after money. That is a bitter truth which we must accept. Yes I agree, Money is not everything but without money we can't even exist. Thats why we are sacrificing our so called 'small small happiness'. We had to migrate only because the situation in Nepal was going very very bad. Even for small things, we had to struggle like a hell.

The one thing which differ Human from other is, man always think about his future and for his children. Even though he has to live in hell, he will always dream for heaven in future.

I used to be a guy who wanted to live in Nepal with a little money. I was much happy actually. Though, I didn't have iphone, gadi/wadi , strip club night life, barely speak english, 72' flat screen TV, XBOX 360, MAC air notebook bla bla..I was quite happy with my small Nokia Phone, Bikram tampoo, basantapur ko momo pasal, Chinese b/w TV, NPR:38,000 parne pentium II computer and kathmandu ko dhula ani dhuwa. After I came over here and Now just compared me what I used to, I found myself very dirty. I got everything what I asked to god but finally found myself empty. I am not blaming anyone its just a fate.

The one thing which we all must agree is " We don't want to touch the dirt"

@ Sexy in Sari,

Before I came to the US, honestly, I never thought it would be this much difficult (in terms of money) to get a degree here. So I thought I would go back. But now, seeing my expenditures on education, I really don't want to go back.

@rockey07,

I agree with you in most of the the things you said.  But some questions for you..

I think you are lucky that you can think about bills, health insurance and stuffs, but its just my opinion.

ani nepalko 20/30000 can seriously be compared with americi 5000? I don't think so. Nepalma 20/3000 ta tyettikai janchha ni, tara americama 5/7000 ta enough hunchha ni yar. Plus, yeha ko kati majors like aeronautical engr., health physics (which is my major :( )laai nepalma job kaha painchha ra yar, mitra?

Nepalma gayera ramrai lifestyle jiu bhane ni kaha painchah ra? Nepalma na batti aauchha, na paani aauchha. Euta gaadi kinau bahne ni kun din kasle fodidine ho k thaha?

About raising up children, nepal ma raise garnu bahnda ta yeha dherai bes ni, haina ra? Yehako padhai, surakshya, ani sabai chiz kaha nepal ko sanag compare garna milchha yar? nepalma bihana school gayeko chhora beluka farkanchha farkadaina k thaha yar? Completely agreed with your family values though, but i have confidence that I can teach my children family values. Not like NightElf who will helph is children have 16 dates before they turn 16. :)

Having said all this, It's ironic, but I have not yet changed my mind of going back to Nepal. :)

Going back or not, it all depends on what you prefer. If you think that you are comfortable in staying here being an alien, then you should be fine. I realize that USA can provide you with the money, human rights and many other aspects but lets not forget that its not our country. If any thing bad happens to this country like financial crisis of even " thulo atankakari hamala" then these americans will make our life much more difficult just because we have brown skin.

In my opinion " aafo desh bhaneko aafnai huncha". In Nepal people are still surviving and still living a decent life. Talking about uncertainty of children returning from school, US also have problems. Remember US has one of the biggest gun crime rate and high schools and colleges often suffers from this. Load shadings, scarcity of water, these things things are not a big issue. I dont think that we are new to this problems. We are going through this situation from ages, and people are still surviving. People in Kathmandu are doing it. There is no question that we cant.

I admit the fact that Nepal lacks multi-million jobs but if you are skilled enough at least you dont have to sleep empty stomach. You might not be able to afford a cutting edge gadgets but you wont have problems buying a cheap chinese electronics and can be happy about it. It all depends upon your state of mind. A "jogi" in pasupathinath can be equally happy as a multimillionaire. How much do you think that an average Nepali family makes? Barely enough. But still our parents raise us up in a decent manner. We had a good food to eat and nice clothes to wear. If they could do it why cant us? After all coming back from US, we have better chance of uplifting our living standard. We will have some money and of-course some valuable life lessons. We will be living a decent respectable life in Nepal.

What i think is that as long as we dont have to live in poverty, there is no question of migration. I have seen some Neplease family here in US who have a child born here, who can speak fluent English but very little Nepali. Its an irony that they are proud about their children that he can speak english and even discourage to talk Nepali. Therefore I think, if I stay over here I will be alien to this country and alien to my country as well."na yeta ko na uta ko". I have grown up as a Nepali and only the Nepali passport made it possible for me to see this dream land. Its not right to    betray our mother and stay here as if we are happy. And talking about discrimination in Nepal, i would prefer discrimination from my own brothers than from any other foreigner who doesnt even have any clue of my origin. "Dignity bhannae kura pani huncha ni yar!!!"

Situation changes according to the time and choices changes as well. But at least before making such huge choice, you have to remember that you have a country. You cant call yourself  an american. Every time you have to introduce yourself, you have to mention about Nepal and at the same time you'll be missing Nepal deep down inside. We still have a choice and we can still go back. The only thing that you have to do is stop pretending like an American and give up the greed. Every thing will be just fine.

Jay Nepal.

Rockey 07,

Again i supports your opinion. one thing i also agree that, THIS IS NOT OUR COUNTRY. The Word "own country" has a lots of value.

If everybody think very seriously then we all come to conclusion which is

Nepal has many small problems such as water, electricity bla bla..but But as we just noticed between these two days, US has Much more severe problems. Two consecutive gun shootout happend in two days.

Rocky7 I am not deferring to what you have presented. At the same time am stating my opinion as: I have at times heard being said: THE GRASS LOOKS GREEN ON THE OTHER SIDE.” I have  wondered why!!!! I figure out perhaps the safety-tank is leaking on that side.

So my point is: it does not matter where one lives as long as the person has the reason of being there and gives meaning to life that results in satisfaction and peace. I believe we humans travel or say migrate to life experiences, adventures, ventures, wisdom, and over all for survival. I find migration as a fact of human existence.

The feelings will always be playing with me as to where I belong and tricking me as well. The ego as always shall be seeking the identity that I need to have one. I don’t want to bounce back and forth with my opinions however, I say that I like Nepal not because it is unique than any other country in the world. I like Nepal because I was born, open my eyes, raised and learn the culture which I genuinely appreciate. So I don’t want to compare Nepal to any other countries and what we gain or lose. I belong to Nepal and I will keep belonging to Nepal because I learned my survival, my journey started from Nepal along with exploration of my existence.

My apology if my writing is vague.

Jai Hosh.

@Nightelf,
I don't know what is the freedom meant to you. You can drink whatever and whenvere you want in Nepal also. Infact I started drinking when i was 5 years old :) and nobody stopped me. Right now I am almost 30 and still they want my ID while buying alcohol :).

US rule saying, you can't have "Churos" untill you get 18. Well We all know most of the american break this law. In Nepal, nobody stopped you have churos except your parents.

I have other things to compare in the name of freedom. Will discuss when we got some freetime :)

Thanks

mampakha
