Paras claims that one of the reasons why Dipendra killed his entire family was because of a weapons deal that did not work out.

‘That, to me, was the real trigger. The deal would have probably been
for about 50,000 rifles, which at US$300 ($454) apiece, would work out
to about US$15 million.’

Paras accuses that Dipendra was planning to make $15 million and when the deal did not pan out he was angered. Paras must have failed in his mathematics class. If the cost of one rifle was $300 how would Dipendra make $15 million? Is that the commission? Even if it was true maybe he would make 5% commission which is less than a million dollars.

This is utter bull shit. Dipendra did not need money he had plenty of money.

This is nothing more than "chor ko khutta kaat bhanda khutta taanne". Now that Maoist are going to reopen the investigation of the palace massacre, this stupid moron paras is already weaving up different stories and excuses.

I did have doubts about Dipendra killing his family now it's become evident that Paras and clan were involved.

So you are refuting somebody's argument over the following:

1. You, like many of us, hate Paras.

2. His argument about the 15 millions commission. You are right, but does that alone throw his case out? It could all be symantecs.

3. Dipendra had all this money. Sure but when is money ever enough?

No matter how bad he is, I kinda believe him for now.

That massacre was great play. Mr paras was financer/producer. Mr gyanendsra- i think he was not involved directly but he approved silently.  Royal army then chief was main Actor, I do believe gun deal was the reason then army chief involvement.  "Anybody can go crazy for power, love and money"-this theory was utilized for framing this bloody drama.

Gyanendra left Narayanhity because he knew this would hapen again with him too.

Nepal is Republic . So, Killing of Birendra and Family can now be considered killing of ordinary Nepalese. So if they are going to punish killer of Birendra and Family than why not punish Killer of Madi bus incidence which killed 40 innoncent including women and children.  They are also ordinary citizen like Birendra in this repubilc Nepal.

The killer of Birendra can never be found now. But every body knows and have proof that Maoist burnt 40 innoncent life alive. Will Prachanda punish himself?

No_quiro jee,

Sooner or later the day will come and Prachandra will be like Birendra or Saddam Hussuain. Prachandra will be in unrecoverable downfall and eventually be killed by Nepali people. It may not be today or tomorrow but certainly that day will come. Royal family never thought that this day would come to their fate.

No matter what happens, we Nepalese will always be innocent and will always be victims.

I guess one of my posts in previous thread loosely related to this one explains it all:

Even I do not like this stupid fella Paras, I do believe what he is saying. Moreover, from the day of royal massacre to till date-I believe it is Dipendra who killed everyone, unlike most emotional  stupid! with that said, as no queiro said, when we are republic and killer prachanda is PM no body is raising voice against ..ask "madi" victim what they say? will you..

Although I dont like Paras and I havent even read what Paras has recently said in the interview but I am very confident that Dipendra was the one who committed the massacre. Shruti shah's husband, Rajiv shahi and every other royal family have already pointed Dipendra as a killer. Also reading through different books and documentary it can be crystal clear that Dipendra wasnt the same as viewed by the common Nepal. In reality he used to Kick/beat his sister, he was very power frenzy and had violient personality. This is what Dipendra's aunt (ketaki chester), army chief, and all the school teachers have claimed about Dipendra.

I think this is how people should rationalize things, otherwise why would family members and others lie? after all for what? Why would Shruti's husband lie?

But there are many reasons why political parties and propagandists lie ..i.e to fool around common people and take the advantage. If they are so confident in there case than why didnt they take any action for so long. Dipendra is the Killer thats what I think from the very begining.

it does not take a rocket scientist to comprehend a simple logic that it's IMplausible, if not impossible, to pick and shoot four immediate family members in a family gathering of more than 20 guarded by armed security force. Now if someone does that in a "drunken" stupor; to me, it easily qualifies for a cheesy hindi flick's unconvincing murder plot. The reality has only to be distorted to make it through (forcefully).

I like to keep things simple(r). I don't claim to have a lot of gray matter up there. I tried hard (really hard) to believe that Dipendra was the real culprit who committed the crime while going on a severe psychotic rampage. But every time I tried to find the logic to weave the incident on my mind, I failed.

If he killed his father for all the differences they had and Nirajan to bring the overall institution down, why on earth did he need to shoot Shruti? Why did he spare Paras? Just coz he pleaded to let him go? What were other attendees and security officers doing while he was on the rampage? Why couldn't normal, non-toxicated people stop one drunken, psycho-murderer?

Enough is Enough, that's what Paras says.He wants his name to be cleared from the rumors.

Those who do not believe his statement, why don't you ask for a fair reinvestigation.

Or just stop this bullshit. Rumours can not simply make him criminal.

Killer trigger: Foiled $23m gun deal
S'pore-based royal reveals what weighed on cousin's mind before he shot family members

By Clement Mesenas

March 30, 2009 Print Ready   Email Article

FORBIDDEN love is the oft-heard reason behind Nepal's palace massacre when Dipendra Bikram Shah, then crown prince, ran amok.

TELLING ALL: Prince Paras reconstructing the events that unfolded on the night in 2001 when his cousin gunned down family members. TNP PICTURE: CHOO CHWEE HUA

But there's more to this Shakespearean tragedy than meets the eye, said the last crown prince of the Himalayan kingdom, a cousin of the killer prince.

Opening up for the first time since the 2001 bloodbath that took place before his eyes, Prince Paras Bikram Shah, 37, said there was a web of deep-seated reasons that sparked the killing.

But the trigger was a thwarted multi-million-dollar arms deal that was to have been Prince Dipendra's golden parachute to freedom if palace politics turned nasty.

Now largely based in Singapore, Prince Paras painted a vivid picture of palace intrigues in an exclusive interview.

He has a reason for making these revelation now (see report at bottom left). He wants to tell the world how a gun deal helped destroy a long-running kingdom.

'The Nepali army was looking for a new weapon to replace the Belgian SLR. Dipendra liked the German Heckler & Koch G36 assault rifle, as opposed to the battle-tested Colt M16,' said Prince Paras, who was close to the younger generation of royals.

'But his father, His Majesty, did not agree. I know that they argued over it. Dipendra was frustrated. He wasn't happy. He told me,' said Prince Paras.

According to Frontline, an Indian magazine, the crown prince was known to have a fetish for guns and would often test out the latest weaponry that the Royal Army was planning to buy.

50,000 guns

The German assault rifle had been short-listed by the army, which was in the market for 50,000 new guns.

According to Prince Paras, his cousin's advisers had been working on the deal, which could have brought the crown prince a windfall.

'That, to me, was the real trigger. The deal would have probably been for about 50,000 rifles, which at US$300 ($454) apiece, would work out to about US$15 million.'

But why would the prince need the money? Wasn't the family's net worth estimated to be more than US$200 million?

'Yes, but I think he was already making plans for the possibility that he would have to leave the country suddenly if things didn't work out for him.

'I think this was his back-up plan.'

The plan ultimately cost Prince Dipendra his life, when he shot himself after the massacre.

But what could be so bad as to lead a crown prince to plot such a bloody scheme?

The palace was a hotbed of contending interests, said Prince Paras.

'Dipendra had his reasons (to kill the king),' said Prince Paras, who left Nepal for Singapore last July after his country's Maoist government abolished the monarchy.

Breaking his long silence on one of history's bloodiest royal moments, Prince Paras told The New Paper that Prince Dipendra had not one but three reasons for wanting to kill his own father.

The first reason, according to Prince Paras, was there for everyone to see.

On 9 Nov 1990, King Birendra promulgated the new constitution and ended almost 30 years of absolute monarchy in which the palace had dominated every aspect of political life.

Said Prince Paras: 'Dipendra was never the same after his father told him in 1990 about the plans to give up the monarchy.

'He never agreed with that as he wanted to rule the country. I think he started planning his moves then.'

Prince Paras grew up with the crown prince as the two were just six months apart in age.

The second reason was his love for Devyani Rana. The royal family did not want Prince Dipendra to marry her as she was from a rival family.

Not drunk

Prince Paras dismissed the notion that his cousin had shot the family on impulse after drinking heavily that night.

'He had talked to us (the younger generation of Nepali royalty) about it a year before it happened,' revealed Prince Paras.

'I remember it clearly. It was his birthday (in 2000) and he told all of us that he would bring down the 'ivory tower'. But we didn't take him seriously. How could we?

'This was the crown prince talking. He was going to be our king. And who would believe that he would kill his own father?'

But Prince Paras said he sensed something amiss on the night of the murders when he went to Prince Dipendra's house for one of the family's regular Friday night parties.

'Another cousin and I asked to be excused from the party because we wanted to go somewhere else. Usually he agreed, but this time Dipendra said no. He wanted us to be there.'

And once he got there, Prince Paras noticed that his cousin was behaving abnormally, acting as though he was drunk when he clearly was not.

'I know him and I know when he had had too much to drink. He said he had been drinking since the afternoon but there was no smell of alcohol on him.

'How can that be? If he had been drinking all the while, he should have been reeking. But there was no smell.'

When the crown prince's father came into view and was about to make his entrance, the prince 'collapsed' on the floor, forcing Prince Paras and Prince Dipendra's brother, Prince Niranjan, to help him up and take him back to his room.

But that was not the last they saw of Prince Dipendra.

In an act of extreme brutality, Prince Dipendra soon returned to slaughter his entire family.

  • Veteran journalist Clement Mesenas is now a public relations adviser with Bang PR.

S Murali is The New Paper's associate editor.

    Why he's opening up now

'THE Nepali people need to know the truth,' said Prince Paras, eight years after seeing 10 members of his royal family gunned down ruthlessly.

The persistent, painful nightmares stopped after four years.

What haven't stopped, however, are the ugly rumours of his involvement in the incident on 1Jun2001.

But enough is enough, says Crown Prince Paras.

He now wants to clear his name.

Reacting to recent reports that the current Nepali government might reopen the investigation into the massacre, he decided to speak to senior Singapore media men.

/Quote Paras may be lying in his interview but no doubt Dipendra is the killer /Unquote

I wonder how anyone can come to such strong derivation - that too with a persuasive clause: NO DOUBT. I fail to fathom the intelligence of some of the members in the forum. Perhaps CIA should start visiting sajha for online recruitment.

The fact remains: No one knows who knows the truth behind the royal massacre and whether they are still alive. It is lesser of a crime to give a benefit of the doubt to the culprit than to accuse an innocent. Dipendra remains innocent to me.

Pret Atma, , on the account of eye witness it was Dipendra who has killed everybody. For me somebody like Gorkh Bahadur statment speaks volume. He has also lost his wife and this incidence has left his two children without mother. If i have to believe anybody I would rahter believe him. He has clearly said Dipendra killed his wife.  Also I believe the Durbar being such a big palace it would not have been possible to fake such a large incidence. There should be many people who would know the truth and it was not possible hide the truth.

pret aatma bro...you write as if you were a non biased, non judgemental person who speaks on facts rather than mere speculations. your remarks suggest that you dont speculate because there are no facts to the incidents YET you clearly state Dipendra's innocence. You ask for facts........... yet you wont listen to the facts of a man(Gorakh Shumsher) who lost his wife. King Gyanendra's wife our queen was shot and was left for dead....... Now use you non biased theory here......dont be judgemental and favor one side........because you wont find the truth if you have already passed your judgement. It is good to be skeptical but blind faith on emotional attachment can lead to blinding of the reality................AND I agree with Bathroomcoffee..enough is enough....let our King and his family RIP. Jay desh jay Naresh.
