Folks,

I am going to Nepal this December and my travel agent gave me this deal with Nepal Airlines connecting Bangkok-KTM Sector (both ways) and China Airlines filling up the rest. How reliable is NA? Can they be counted upon? Any past experiences? Suggestions appreciated!!

Dude,I am also planning to go to Nepal in Dec. However, I have not bought my tickets yet. IS flying with RA significantlygoing to drop your ticket price, like by a few hundred dollars???? The average rate I have been getting for the time is around $1560-$1600 with Gulf Air. If yours quote is way lesser than this with RA, plspost it on the this thread. Thanks!

Dude,

This ticket thing has been bothering me quite a lot as I started looking for it since mid-summer to find that none of the travel agents have anything less than $2,000 as I am flying from one of the remote parts of the country and then somebody gave me this offer for around $1700. If you are flying from one of the big cities from East/West coast, price and ticket won't be a problem for you. I've asked my agent to look for any other possible alternatives to replace NA with any other airlines, let's c what happens. Good luck!

No dude...if you consider the track record of NA while flying..they are one of the safest airlines in the world because the plane needs to take off inorder to have accident while flying...the only risk with them is...they usually just don't fly. I am not sure if you consider that as a risk or not. It depends on your avaibility of time you have.

Avisheshjee,... safety-wise I could say this is one of the safest airlines in Asia as its B-757s have not encountered any major accidents in the past 20 years ! The only hitch is the unreliability of its schedules. Nevertheless, NAC endorses its passengers to other airlines as and when there is a deviation in its schedules. So, in my opnion it is worth giving a try if the fare is coming cheaper.

BON VOYAGE !

I would avoid RA - or Nepal Airlines or RNAC or whatever they like to call themselves nowadays - like a plague.  Sure you might save few dollars, but it ain't worth the risk.

They might just bump you for no reason.

And suppose you do get the ticket, you never know whether they cancel the flight or not.

And then, even if they don't cancel the flight and you have your boarding pass, you will definitely be in for hours of delay.

So why, pray why, do you want to fly that airline?

As much as I would love to support our national airline, I would avoid RA at all costs. The potential stress, hassles, and costs simply do not make it worth saving a couple hundred dollars.

Maalpani,

Your claims of RA's safety might be a little out of scale. 10 flights (each avg 4 hrs) per week for a year = ~2000 flying hours for one aircraft. Big apples need to be compared with big apples, and peanuts against peanuts.

Your father, uncle, brothers did heavy national crimes and corruption in RNAC management which is the main result of RNAC fails in every single management, budget, finance, service, expansion and development.

In RNAC, even lower class officer has lavish huge building, auto and servants in their home.

These are the direct result of deeply rooted heavy national crimes and corruption. It is visible.

Axarajee,... you are right when you say the number of hours RA aircrafts flew during these 20 yrs should also be counted. But then, as far as RA's B-757s are concerned in this wide span of 20 yrs ( in my rough calculatio they might have logged 35000 to 40000 hrs ) the casualty ratio is still zero. In Asian standard ( please note that in my earlier posting I was comparing with Asian airlines), this is not bad if not good !
