Dear Folks,
The White house has decided to strictly implement 1987 immigration law to crackdown on illegal immigrants. That means that anybody who is working without a status will be a subject of departure. Does it effect you? How can you be safe? These are the questions that you need to ask yourself.
The Home Land Security has already asked the employers to report fake social security numbers and the HLS has started working with a couple of other agencies in order to crackdown on illegal workers. Now, your employer has to verify your social security number within 3 months from the hiring date. If they don't report with in 3 months, they will be fined $2,200 and more. If the social security office says that you are not authorized to work, then HLS steps in. Sooner or later, a lot of people will be departed to their countries if they are found working illegally.
I am sure that many of us are working illegally. Do not assume that the government, HLS and the employers do not know about your status. They all know that you are working illegally. They were quiet because the departure process is an expensive procedure, the US needs workers like you, and the job is not easy.
Just play a safe game with your employer. If you are completely illegal, you may want to file for an asylum status (a best option available to a Nepali at this time). At least, you have a high chance of legally staying in the US. Why not?
