i have graduated last mid of may. i have applied my opt on march 2007 stating the start date as june 1st 2007. But still i haven't got my opt card. When i checked USCIS it shows my Case received and pending. I am worried about my status if i will not get it until mid of july( Which already covered 60 Days Grace period). In that case what happened to my status. Anybody familiar with this condition? Pls

Hello Sansar 1,

Don't worry about OPT beng not issued on the expected date. Instead, it is better that longer it takes the OPT to get approved the better it is for you. OPT being issued faster (or on the expected date) depends on the Immigration officer handling the case. Depending on the officer's proiority he/she may choose to work on OPT cases earlier or later. So, it entirely depends on his/her work. One of my friends had the OPT approved after exactly 3 months of applying it. And the OPT starts from the date it gets approved and not from June 1st, so, you will not waste any time other than 3-4 days, the time it takes the OPT card to get you in mail.

Yes, as long as you have the I-20 from your schoo/college that states that you're OPT I-20 is valid for a year, you're in status. But the USCIS web site also says applicants to call them if they do not hear about OPT even after 90 days.

So, don't worry and Good Luck for the OPT and all the best finding a job!
