Aman mitra raised a good question. That's how student politics have been operating in our contry. Long time ago, Sankar Bhandari (TC College-student union SAVAPATI) was saying, 'Her bhai ma sangai ka sathi kaha pugi sake-in terms of career-, ma yetai lanthii rachhu'. worried ...bhandari ...had not completed his B.A for a long time at that moment... He was from Tanahu and I was from Lamjung...and was sharing his emotion with me.

no matter who comes ahead in this political arena, like everybody, i also want to see some competant persons' entrance who can really lead the country in a better direction.

i hope some day -BIHARI MODEL- type of political adoption will fade way.

Thanks Sagun jee for the information. My guess is confirmed now. Then Pradip Poudel is the son of my geography teacher! He comes from Dhorphirdi VDC, Tanahun District. His father was (is?) a hardliner congress and never lost his faith even in adverse circumstances. Let's hope the son will also keep his words, unlike many other so called Netas who change overnight...and not only one time......

Ideologically.. they are more like two sides of a coin. Pradeep is competent academically as well. Pradeep is a vanasthali product can't be compare with Sankar !!!!!!!!!!!

so far as I know Pradeep and Gagan are of same SLC badge ...and their friendship rooted from highschool itself. Pradeep and Gagan represent the progresive and ideological part of student politics where as Sankar represent the old traditional netagiri. There can't be any comparision. The only compare can be both could be from same distirict.

Pradeep's brother Kiran Paudel was also a TC student union member at one time. I heard he is also somewhere in USA. Does anyone know where is he these days?

I am of a strong conviction that once this "transitional period" is over and a new era (at least in principle) of the rule of law and good governance begins in Nepal, we will have to make our educational institutions and all other public institutions free of the rampant and nonsensical partisan politics we have been witnessing over the years.

We will have to make it illegal for political parties to open their branches and exploit the public resources in schools and colleges. We will have to devise mechanism to discourage partisan politics from infesting our public institutions.

Otherwise the dream of the rule of law and good governance will remain as illusive as it has been.

So my point is our political student organizations should start preparing themselves for less partisan and more independent and, more vitally, more educational roles in near future.

Unfortunately, I do not see any sign of that yet.

The victory of the pro-republic group in the election of NSU is a piece of news to rejoice for me. However, for the reason I explained above and one I am explaining below, the news is not as thrilling as it could have been.

GP Koirala is all time high powerful, indispensable and untouchable in NC and also outside at least for indispensability. In this pervasive atmosphere, even likes of Narahari Acharya and Gagan Thapa have found themselves forced to accept submission to his power.

Pradip Poudel does not seem to be any extra-ordinarily creative or adventurous to credibly threat Koirala. In fact, his celebratory word for "Koirala's samraxakatwa to NSU in coming days" right after his victory made me wonder about the strength of his spine and whatever good things that might have been bringing.

To make it short, I think it will be outside's decisive pressure rather than inside pressure that will be forcing Koirala to accept republic and it will be Koirala's leisurous self-realization (read "asim nigaah" in Nepali) rather than karyakarta's resilient demand that will bring any degree of "internal democracy", if at all, in NC.

As things stand, Narahari Acharya, Gagan Thapa and Pradip Poudel are helpless as far as bringing any credible threat to GP Koirala.

Koirala will be ruling like a king and commanding respect in NC as long as he wishes and his life blesses him.

Outside NC, however, republic is already a forgone conclusion for Nepal. In that respect, Koirala is already irrelevant and perhaps any threat/challenge to him as well.

So pro-republic karyakarta's submission to the power of Koirala is probably not as dismaying

मेरा केहि असंगठित विचारहरु बाँड्दैछु ।

ने. का. को कनिष्ट नेतृत्व र कार्यकर्ताको हकमा गणतन्त्रको पल्ला भारी भएको तथ्य धेरै पहिले (३-४ वर्ष अघि नै) प्रकाशमा आएको हो । शायद 2003 मा हो क्यारे, ने. का. को जिल्ला सभापतिहरुको भेला भएको थियो (केहि समय अघि भए जस्तै) र यसमा गणतन्त्रको बहुमत देखिएको थियो ।

2005 मा भएको ने. का. को पछिल्लो महाधिवेशनमा पनि, सभापति पदमा कोईरालाले गणतन्त्रवादी प्रत्यासी नरहरि आचार्यलाई अत्यधिक मतले पराजित गरे पनि, रमाईलो कुरा के थियो भने लगभग शतप्रतिशत प्रतिनिधीहरु वैचारिक रुपले गणतन्त्रको पक्षमा थिए रे । स्पष्टै छ, उनिहरुले कोईरालाको राजनैतिक विचारलाई होईन सत्तामा उनको पकड र प्रभावलाई हेरेर उनलाई चुनेका थिए ।

भर्खरै आयोजित जिल्ला सभापतिको भेलामा पनि 75 सभापतिहरु मध्ये 71 जना गणतन्त्रको पक्षमा र 4 जना मात्र कर्मकाण्डी राजतन्त्रको पक्षमा थिए ।

यसबाट के स्पष्ट हुन्छ भने कोईराला बहुमतको कदर नगर्ने तानाशाह हुन् र कार्यकर्ताहरु पनि त्यस तानाशाहीलाई चुनौती दिन नसक्ने नपुंसक वा अवसरवादीहरु हुन् ।

यस सिमितताको वावजुद ने. का. को कुनै पनि अंग वा स्थानबाट गणतन्त्रको पक्षमा सुनिने आवाजले गणतन्त्रलाई मजबुत बनाउने कुरामा भने कुनै सन्देह नि:सन्देह छैन ।

जहासम्म ने. का. को मध्यमार्गको कुरा छ यसमा माथिको यथार्थलाई अर्थात् ने. का. टाउको एकातिर हिड्न चाहने जिउ अर्कोतिर हिड्न खोज्ने अजिबको जन्तु भएको यथार्थलाई बिर्सनु हुँदैन ।

अनि जहासम्म ने. का. को अस्तित्व र नेपाली राजनीतिमा यसको सन्तुलन भूमिकाको कुरा छ, ने. का. ले जतिसुकै त्रुटीपूर्ण राजनैतिक निर्णयहरु गरे पनि यसको अस्तित्व कायम रहिरहने छ । त्रुटी अनुसार चुनावमा कम भोट आउला तर त्यसले ने. का. को अस्तित्व नै हराउने भने होईन । कांग्रेसी कार्यकर्ताहरु अरु दलमा प्रवेश गर्ने अवस्था आउने देख्दिन ।

अर्को कुरा, अहिलेको बदलिएको राजनैतिक समिकरणमा मध्यमार्ग ने. का. को व्यापारिक संज्ञा (brand) मात्र हुन पुगेको छ । पूर्वपञ्चहरुको दलहरु पनि ने. का. जत्तिकै "मध्यमार्गी" भईसकेका छन् ।

त्यसकारण कुनै अकल्पनिय तरीकाले ने. का. को अस्तित्व मेटिएछ भने पनि "मध्यमार्ग" को रिक्तता भर्ने शक्ति उपस्थित हुनेछ वा अहिले नै छ भन्दा हुन्छ ।

अनि माओवादीहरुको एकदलिय गणतन्त्र स्थापना गर्ने काल्पनिक वा यथार्थ सम्भावनाको बारेमा चाही तपाईले भने जस्तै अन्तरराष्ट्रिय प्रतिकुलता त छदैछ तर सबभन्दा ठूलो चाही राष्ट्रिय प्रतिकूलता हो । माओवादीहरुको एकदलिय गणतन्त्र कुनै अकल्पनिय तरिकाले स्थापना भएछ भने पनि त्यो एक घण्टा पनि टिक्ने छैन । नेपाली जनता जनआन्दोलन-२ को भन्दा पनि ठूलो समुह र वेगमा अरिंगालको गोलोले झै माओवादीमाथी जाईलागेर तिनीहरुलाई सत्ताच्युत गरिदिनेछन् ।

तर शायद सबभन्दा ठूलो सुरक्षा त के हो भने यदाकदा पुरानो जन-गणतन्त्र शब्द सुनिए पनि माओवादीहरुले शास्त्रिय साम्यवादलाई परिमार्जन गर्ने क्रममा (उनिहरुको नयाँ थेसिस "एक्काइसौं शताब्दीको जनवाद" मा) बहुलवाद र प्रतिस्पर्धात्मक निर्वाचनलाई सैद्धान्तिक रुपमै अंगिकार गरिसकेका छन् । त्यसमा नेपालको धरातलिय यथार्थ (लोकतन्त्रले पाएको जनस्वीकृती र प्रतिवद्धता ) जोड्ने हो भने नेपालको लोकतन्त्रलाई माओवादीबाट हुने संभावित खतरा भनेको ने. का. बाट हुने संभावित खतरा (हाईपोथटिकल्ली, कोईराला परिवारको जहानियाँ शासन) भन्दा बेसी छैन भन्ने लाग्छ मलाई ।
