I am proud to be a Hindu too.

But I kinda don't get how all these are related to the Hindu religion directly. Eastern civilization in general might have been more developed in general than the western one back then, but does that necessarily translate to Hinduism being the superior religion or something?

I think it was the civilization and not the religion. Otherwise a whole lot of today's developments can be attributed to christianity! But I would rather say it is the western civilization that have developed, and most of it has little to do with religion.

Bullshit.

I have respect for Hinduism but these kindda lists make me sick. There is nothing to be proud of if someone from your part of the world does something big.

More than that the list looks crappy to me.

I have healthy respect for Hinduism, but some of these claims go way over board, in my opinion.

Just the other day, a friend of mine was claiming that there were airplanes in Hindu world, aka bharatbarsha, thousands of years before Wright Brothers invented one. Case in point, he said quite emphatically, Ravan's bimaan on which he abducted Sita.

I said, c'mon, do you seriously believe that?

He was still adamant but slightly conciliatory. Well, even if there was no Ravan ko bimaan, the architectural design of an airplane was already thought of by rishi intellectuals of old Hinduism. It is mentioned in one of the holy books, he continued, that a bimaan should have Vaayu (air) under the wings and agni (fire) under its belly and it will fly.

Yeah right. It is one thing to say that you need Vaayu under the wings and agni under its belly while it is vastly another to design a jet engine.

So, unless you are one of those twisted dumbass Hindu fundamentalist, you should be quite hard pressed to believe any of these crap.

everytime religion shows the great civilization which way to walk. some people above said civilization and religion is not mixed, they are not only mixed i would say they are interelated with each other. one fulfils the necessity of another.

take the example of late roman empire, when they move their capital to constantine it was religious reason. then pope in power to control them and orthodoxy christianity grew in some places at the same time.

and the fight between iraq and US is also a fight between religion as some american conservatives would like to say.

so religion and civilization they are different but they are part of the same body, like ear is religion and hand is civilization, u need each other to get succed just like that . christianity grew cause western empire grew, otherwise it was just a cult from jeruselem.

thopa, the discussion about the relation between religion and civilization can go both ways. While it certainly is true that most civilizations embrace religion as their core that holds them together, religion has not always been conducive to development. Religious beliefs, a lot of which were based on superstitions or past suppositions, hindered many radical theories. Galileo's theories about our solar system was not accepted at first because by religion, people believed that heavenly bodies were just that, heavenly bodies, perfect and unattainable. There are too many examples when religious beliefs have held back development.

In fact, religion has adapted to civilization as the years have progressed. Do you think we would be considered hindus by the hindu saints of centuries ago?
