Its not surprising king is gradually getting people's confidence now. If king was so bad he could have easily implemented military rule like saddam but in turn he heard the people's voice that time.

I think it is good that king has left his powers because we are now seeing the reality of maoist who always said they were in favor of ordinary nepali. There is no demorcracy at all in the rule of maoist. They can extort money at any time, put taxes, make separate budget for their armies and buying guns and arms. They can take guns to parliment, tax visitors, industries, forced children to thier rallies from school of kathmandu few days earlier which is clear violation of human right. If a traffic police tries to fine a maoist leader if they break traffic rule, he/she would be reprimanded and warned that he/she would be dismissed from his work. uff what a democracy.

मलाई पनि ढुङ्गा नै चै हनी हाल्नु हुँदैन थियो जस्तो लाग्छ । सजाय दिने अरु तरिका पनि थुप्रै छन ।

There is nothing to be sad....
GYane has to face the public.... the nation....the people for the crimes he has done...

He order to shoot down the pro democracy protestors a year ago....

Now these same protestors are not shooting him.... Just throwing stones.....

If saddam has to face the rope for killing 148 people, why not gyane who had conducted genocide starting from the durbar Hatya kanda and the so called emergency?

This is what going to happen:

These kind of activities brings King Sympathy and Makes oridinary people really doubt maoist intentions .So, this is beneficial for king.
we all know nepalese forgive and forget so easily ..Well .makes me believe king is there to stay.

I have solution :Catch these people and put these people in zoo and make money. These monkeys needs to be where they belong.

I have been a royalist and still am. But I am saddened by the actions of probably-soon-to-be-ex-king Gyanendra. His actions have brought the whole lineage down and probably will cost the institution of monarchy. It would be sad to see the monarchy go but right now it seems inevitable.

The stoning is just one way the people are expressing their frustrations against the king's past actions (undemocratic ones). Unless the king and the royal family do things that will win back peoples' heart (which now almost impossible - given Paras fiascos coupled with King's string of wrong political moves), the days of monarchy in Nepal are numbered. Now we can only hope that the demise of monarchy does not usher in anarchy.

Dautari:

I believe you are right. I also thought King was the only instituition capable of driving nation in a right direction. As it turns out, we were all wrong. Gyane got his chance and missed it. The whole Nepal was taken by surprise of how ineffective king was when G had an opportunity to proved to the nation that he is the right person and Monarchy is the right instituition for Nepal. Unforunately, Paras and others alike took things for granted and result is this.

Time is right now for janjatis to rise and fight for their rights. It was madhesi and now janjati. Their rights should be granted and their voices be heard. It is long passed due. I now realize that Rights of the Janjatis, Madhesi and others are impossible under old system.

Go get'em.

All right, here's a bad pun: It's Shiva Ratri, and the king gets stoned!

Told ya: a bad pun :-(

****

Seriously, though, it does NOT matter whether it's Prachanda, Girija, Madhav Nepal or King Gyanendra whose car gets hit by stones.

In ALL cases, the incident would be unfortunate and should be treated as a shameful episode by any Nepali democrat worth his or her name.

In a democracy, people don't settle differences by throwing stones
at one's opponents, and at others that one does not like.

People settle differences by debates, dialogues, compromises and trade-offs -- and NOT through violence.

If throwing stones and physically trying to hurt others were democratic norms, then, why go through this song-and-dance routine of TRYING to having a parliament and a rule of law regime? Why not stone one's opponents to death, and chest-thump that achievment as the deeds of democrats?

Sure, King G is a not loved figure in Nepal.
That's fine.

But THE POINT IS even UNLOVED figures in Nepal have a right NOT to be attacked with stones in public spaces.

After all, a democracy is NOT a license to do anything to people one does not like while looking away when one's friends do all the bad things.

Alas, our democracy has a long, long way to go with regard to how it treats even unpopular, unloved and reviled figures in public.

Hmm...How could we settle our differences with this "बिष्णु का अवतार"? I don't think talking here in Sajha would solve!

I see the possiblility and an opportunity only after one dies and goes to heaven (hell, perchance). :)

Yes, but to do that u have to come out of the previlege that u r getting because of the people, get to the level of the ordinary people , abandon the crown , be a normal nepali and then there can be DEBATES, DIALOGUES, COMPROMISES and TRADE-OFFS.
