In today's Kantipur dainik (29 sept) Bikram Subba writes that KU and ohter universities of Nepal are not actually promoting equitable education. He deligently reviews the 12th convocation of KU and reveals that Dalit, Janajatis and deprived sections of the Nepali society are still far below the reach of expensive education provided by KU and many other private institutions. If this is what is the true picture (as reflected in the 12th convocation) it is a serious matter.

Education is not a matter of privilege. Access to an institution should be determined by which class one belong to and how much money one has or what power one wields. Unfortunately, KU is promoting a class-based education. Though, it has churned a few hundred graduates, students are still lacking in high morality and consciousness. I personally feel that most of my friends who graduated from KU never want to come to Nepal or work in the government sector. They think that they are worth far more than graduates of other institutions in Nepal. Even if they have a position in Nepal they don't want to settle for a lowprofile (as seen by nepali society) job. Why is KU not addressing these issues? Is it not the responsibility of a university to serve the socitey directly? What can't KU force its 'rich' graduates to community service? Why can't the students be sensitive to the issues of common education opportunity? KU is spoiling the brains of its students by just giving them bookish knowledge.

It's time that we put pressure on the planners and executives of KU to chanage the policiy so that the university can be more accomodating. 15 years is too much for any office bearers to stay in one position. Things do not change when there are same sets of people. Expat nepalis must understand that it is also their duty to speak up on such serious issues and expose charlatans like Suresh Raj Sharma, Sitaram Adhikary , Bhadara Man Tuladhar and other cronies of these people.

KU is spoiling under them. Intellectuals of the world, unite !

PS: Please read the second sentence in the second para as "Access to an institution should NOT be determined..." and not as it appears.

Sorry for this typo error !!!
