Was this a stupid question? I tried to google it but found no relevant answer regarding the max exchange amount and the place. I feel like I sound stupid asking this question.

dotnetrookie bro,
No, this is not a stupid question. I find it to be genuine. Here's my experience. I went back home over 6 years ago, so please take my advice with a grain of salt, 'cuz process/system might have changed in all these years.

Bank ma gayera saatna ni milcha, Thamel tira gayera saatna ni milcha. Bank le, as a nature of their business of course, atti nai dherai questions sodhchha ani form sorm bharna laaucha. Thamel ma no questions asked. Pahile nai call garera jaane ani ke kati chha, usle thikka paarera raakhdyaa huncha. You go there and pick up, count and come back home. Bank ko limit huna sakcha, I'm not sure. But Thamel tira jati ni saatna milcha. Moreover, Thamel tira NRB ko rate bhanda 2..3 rupiya badhi nai dincha. I don't know how much legal this is but sabai le gari raakhya huncha. So, be cautious.

I hope this helps and good luck on your trip back home after 7 long years.
