Does anyone here have an experience dealing with the DMV to renew license during the TPS renewal period. I don't think I will get my new EAD before my license expires. TX.

Will DMV consider the federal registry notice and guidance to employers about validity of EAD for 180 days past expiry date as a valid ground to renew driver's license.

I'm going to try and talk to the folks at the DMV. Life has taught me that praying doesn't work. Especially for an atheist.

Take the federal register notice along with 797-C and they will give you 6 months extension. At least that's what they do here in IL.

@nepal1827 - Thank you. I was thinking of that as well. However, as you may know, the DMV is a state department and not federal. So what is accepted in IL may not be accepted in TX. I'm still going to try anyways. Next option is to buy a bicycle. Its still cheaper than a ticket LOL

Hi,
It might not be exactly same case but normally DMV are fine when you show that you are in a valid status.
For me, my H1B transfer application was pending forever so I just took the Receipt Notice from USCIS which was more than enough. So, I believe the Federal Notice will work fine too.

I went to one of the offices at Texas DMV to renew my DL and they didn't accept Federal Register notice because they said the notice clearly mentions only for EAD. Just FYI.

@rasmi_01 In your case, your sevis updates and that is a verifiable ground for issuing a driver's license.

@chornepali I'm hoping that the ead comes in soon. Its weird that you can accept employment with just the federal registry notice but cannot renew a driver's license. If only the government was a little consistent on how it functions.
