As we prepare for the next phase of fundraiser, i.e. the handover,  I want to share a few things.

We were very lucky to have met our goals. The final number for the fundraiser was $6705 minus credit card transaction fee of $240.12 to yield a final total of  6464.88 available raised fund which came above our goal of $6000. The anonymous donor who gave the final push and contributed $500 was instrumental in reaching our goal and he deserves many thanks!

In the past, when sajha had raised funds for various causes such as listed in Why should I trust sajha fundraiser? our main goal was to provide the fund to the needy and it was the end of story.

This time, however, I have received suggestions from many sajha wellwishers that this is something that needs to be shared with Nepali media as well. Not only would that provide exposure to the effort made by sajha visitors in making this possible for a good cause, it would also provide a positive news about how Nepalis living in the US have come forward to help out a deserving cause. In addition, it would again provide some exposure to Dil Shova's work thus encouraging more support for her, and for others to be involved in good causes.

Hence I am contemplating on writing up a 'news' submission to few newspapers in Nepal regarding the Dil Shova fundraiser, combining the past fundraisers that sajha visitors have helped to materialize.

Please feel free to provide any write ups that we could use to hand over to the media.

San,
sajha has visitors from different parts of world (US, UK, Australia etc), i am not sure if other part of world helped in raising money for this cause, however I don't think it is a good idea to just say "US", may be  "Sajha member" would sound better than just  "Nepalese in US".

just my two cents, but again, i congratulate you and whole sajha family  :)

cheers

I am thinking of submitting the following. If you have any suggestions and or comments please feel free to share.

The Dil Fundraiser was created on July 17th 2012, after sajha.com website visitors posted the video of Dil Shova's interview. What Dil Shova has done is outstanding and it is not something that anyone can hope to do in their lifetime. Everyone is burdened with their own problems and it takes a very special, strong and kind hearted person to bring homeless people into their own home to care for them. In addition, she has brought in orphans from civil war to her house to raise them.

In her interview by Bijay Kumar Pandey on his Dishanirdesh program, she mentioned that her house was put as collateral on a loan and that a total of Rs. 500,000 was needed to complete the payments. That is how a goal of $6000 was created for the fundraiser. The fundraiser started on July 17th, 2012 and ended on August 31st, 2012. At the end of the fundraiser, the total collected was $6464 which amounts to approximately Rs. 564,000 according to current exchange rate of (1USD = 87.3NRS)

Sajha.com is a virtual community of Nepalese mostly living abroad. Over 10,000 unique visitors visit the site everyday to get connected to the vast Nepali virtual community. Sajha.com was established in 2001 and it continues to serve the Nepalese diaspora spread all over the world.

The virtual community of sajha.com have come together in numerous occassions to raise funds for needy Nepalese. In August 2004, sajha visitors raised $1765 to help Ranish Bhattarai get kidney transplant. Ranish was ranked 1st in BSc exam in Nepal but both his kidneys had become dysfunctional and he did not have the resources. In September 2007, sajha visitors again raised $7666 for Ritika Khanal a 3 year old girl who could not see anything. There was a need for $7000 for her to get an operation to give her a chance to see and the caring sajha community came together to provide that opportunity for her. In addition, sajha visitors have given in multiple occassions to provide for last rites of Nepalis all over the US.

When will be the handover of this money? It'll be really a very proud moment for us who could participate (even in a very small amount) in this holy reason.  San dai, how about continuing the fundraising and send the whatever amount is collected till the end of the month to Dilshova to meet her daily necessities?

If there are visitors in Sajha from other countries like UK, Australia like NYshangal said above, why don't they ever share their experiences with others in Sajha. I only find people from US participating in this forum. Why are not the nepalis from countries other than US showing their presence here? Are they only the silent visitors who want to know what's going on with people in US?

 San Dai,

Thanks for taking a lead on this.  Sajha members are fantastic in terms of supporting this noble cause.  Live for God, Lead for Nepal.
