I don’t know if this is a right place to post this message or not. I have done Medical Lab Technology(a 4 years Degree) from Nepal. I am here in US currently. I am just wondering about further  opportunity or study options in this area. Does anybody have any knowledge in this area. Are there any certification  exams I can take and directly work here.

Your suggestions are highly appreciated.

Thank you in Advance !

this field is very good ... its got lots of opportunities and a good pay...... What visa are you in US. If you are in F1, then i would advise you to study for
your masters in that field.

If you are in US with GC, then i think you have to take license exam...i have one of my friend in Chicago, He did his undegrade in other filed but did masters in Medical Tehchnology and his one working in one of the best hosptials in Chicago.. I would talk to my friend if you have any advise.

if you have any more questions just email me...

Hi Sikchya

You can take ASCPi certification exam for Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Check out the site ascp.org.
I would suggest to take the exam first .
Further study wouldnot make much difference as this field doesnot require graduate level studies. but its always better to learn more.

Thank you so much, resolution2007,CL71563 and NEPALI EAGLE !
I really appreciate your suggestions. I might get work permit within a few months(4-6 months), i guess.
In the mean time i am still confused wheather to join for my master degree on Medical Tech(Clinical Laboratory) or give the ASCP Certification. I am interested on doing certification.
@NEPALI EAGLE : I did my undergraduate in Medical Lab Technology from Pokhara University, Nepal. Its a 4 years degree and i have a good GPA too.

Thank you again

Go for certification because you already have one  degree.
Its a good field but  now its getting saturated.
Applying for certification, setting the appointment and test preparation could take couple of months.

All the Best.

Sikchya,
I am doing undergrad in the same program. As all others have said, you can apply for ASCPi (international) and apply in hospitals. I do not know which state are you in. If you could tell me, I could provide you more information. They have Masters in CLS in my university. Since we learn very little in Nepal (I have a lab tech degree from Nepal too), it would be very nice if you join a masters program.
Send me your number and we can have a long conversation about this.
Good luck

Sikchya,
Certification is required if you are going to work in any hospital. So, i'd say prepare for it. Some hospitals allow you some time to take certification like 6 mths to a year. But, taking in advance will help you since you have spare time now. There's also a website called www.labce.com  where you can practice some test questions.
Personally, I wouldn't suggest you to join masters. But once you start working you can definitely specialize in some areas of your interest like Microbiology, Chemistry of Blood Bank.

Good luck! :)
