Hello All,
How many of you think Facebook fan page or twitter followers help to promote site or business? I didn't think about it while ago but now I started thinking about it.

Also what do you think is the best idea to increase fan numbers? :)

hand out coupons or give any other incentives for people to become fan on your facebook page. also, if people geniuinely appreciate your business, then it should be easy for you to ask them to become fans.

Giving gifts or incentive to become a fan is good idea but what happens if they opt out from the fan list very next day after getting gifts? :P Just buzz in my mind.

that's why the incentive needs to be small enough that doesn't break your business but helps you no matter how many times it is used and big enough that people want to use it. I'm not sure what business you are operating but think about it like this. If a restaurant puts out a coupon for $5 off $25, they've got nothing to lose if people keep coming back with coupons.
