 Surprised why are people so negative about everything. They hate everything. Swasthani, now is read just for fun of it. Its scripture written in those days of male dominant society where women had to be preserved from invaders.
Whatever the case, its just a story. But somebody here asks for changing the story otherway round so that it pleases some people. There are tons of movies, books etc which are for and against something, so should we start the same demand. 
Swasthani should be there to let the younger generation know how women were treated in those days how far they have come.

As somebody said earlier, Little knowledge is dangerous.....truly said man.

 My point is basically these two.

1. Women rights issues are different issues from your heritage issue. Yes, women rights are important. If you saw a husband beating a woman, a woman not getting her rights inside her family, a daughter being kept at home but son being sent to schools, etc etc, these are women rights issues. We must address these issues seriously.

2. Once you start looking for 'scientific basis' in old works--as Nirmala Sharma does-- or once you start judging old works based on what zeitgeist is, then you will have to destroy a lot of things. In fact, since modern science started only in last 100-200 years, you will have to destroy or rewrite everything of the past that precede 200 years. This is a really stupid idea that this author has advanced.

And , since Swasthani is a book written by a Nepali, it should continue to hold special place among all Nepalese. I once read somewhere that Swasthani was 400-500 years old, but it does have flavor of that time, and you feel that there were lots of small kingdoms those days, so must have been written before Prithvi Narayan Shah's unification. I have seen really old (almost 300 years old) swasthani book written in Newari language in some Newar houses. This is a uniquely Nepali heritage. I wonder if others own old Swasthani books too or did I err in my observation? I also believe Swasthani was originally written in probably Newari, rather than Nepali, because the Nepali language written there looks rather new in its grammar style. If anyone knows more about its history, please let me know.
[And I doubt this lady knows more either, given how she has written.]

 I am surprised by what you wrote. So, you obviously think that if a person writes 90% of correct stuffs, and 10% of wrong stuffs, we have to focus on 90% of correct stuffs. But in reality, a man has to write 100% correct stuff. Even if someone is inserting 1% of her biased stuff among the correct stuffs, he is a fake person, and his dishonesty has to be denounced.
-> Are you saying that you are not biased at all?

Another thing is, to make statements like " I think the women's situation in Nepal is very much connected to the cultures and faith we carry." is easy. In fact, it is obvious. But it has nothing to do with Swasthani per se. In our own culture, brothers have to 'dhog' their sister, parents give money to their young daughter but not to young brother in religious ceremonies and several girls are often considered deviko awavatar. We can't pick things selectively to denounce our heritage.
-> How can you absolutely say that swasthani has nothing to do? There are obviously many good things including the ones you wrote in our culture, but there are many as she wrote. Isn't understanding and debating is the way in the right direction?

This woman has plainly written that "Swasthani needs to be rewritten" . Go and read this article. What do you mean by rewritten? Then she goes on to say why this thing is unscientific or that thing is unscientific. Find me a culture that doesn't have unscientific, unbelievable things written in their scripture of those era. This doesn't mean we have to erase or rewrite those things.
-> I agree with this part. I would be concerned on correcting in the present as rewriting is not going to change. But one thing I would like to point is that many of us still have blind faith in what is written. Many still do fasting during swasthani even for a month long and I doubt if they would give roti to their daughters.

What the hack are you saying here? I agree that old culture should change that conflict on current age. But, what is the main point is we have to save our culture too. If we search all the meaning according to current age, that will not give the solution. What I don't agree with mahila adhikaar badi is, if man are drunker we need to be also a drunker, if man sex with outside woman we also have to sex with multipal mans par day . this kind of thinking is totally wrong. what should stablished is both need to be honest.

परम्परा र संस्क्रिति को बिरोध गरेपछी आफु आधुनिक भइन्छ भन्ने गलत मानसिक्ताले ग्रसित छ नेपाली समाज। हामी किन मन्मनै हाम्रो संस्क्रिति प्रतिको हिनतबोध ले ग्रसित् हुँदै छौं हामी? आज हरेक जती लिङ बर्ग अफु थिचिएको महसुस गर्छ? के NGO को पैसाको लागि मात्रै यो लेखिएको हो कि हामीमा पालएको परम्परा संस्क्रिति प्रती को बद्दो ब्रित्रिशना  ले हामीलाई हरेक कुरमा नकरत्मक र अफु अपहेलित भएको महसुस गर्न बाद्य तुल्यएको छ त? के नेपाली समाज साँच्चीकै त्यस्तै रुढिबाधी  सन्स्कार्मै जकेधिएको थियो त? छिमेकी भारतको तुलना गर्ने हो भने नि हामी हाम्रो समाज महिला प्रती सधैं उधार नै रही आएको नै छ। फगत स्वोस्थानि मा लेखिएको हरफहरुकै आधारमा महिला अपहेलित भएको आधार निकान्ल खोज्नु भनेको ईतिहास र सभ्यताको बिकास प्रतिको अज्ञानता मात्रै होइन मनसिक दरिद्रताको प्रहसन गर्नु हो।

अधुनिक समाज को कुर गर्ने हो भने भर्खरै अनुराधा कोइराला लाई हाम्रो " पुरुष प्रधान" समाजले कती सम्मान दियो त्एसेको बारे हामी सबैलाई थाहा भको कुरनै हो। अझ भौनु उनी महिला भको कारण ले नै झन्बधी सम्मान पाइन् जस्तो लाग्छ मलाई। उनलाई क् पुरुष क् महिला सबैले उत्तिकै नै सम्मान गरेक छैनन र? सक्च्यम, सकारत्मक् सोच राख्ने महिल लाई नेपाली समाजले अपहेलित होइन सम्मान नै गरेको छ। पुष्पा बस्नेत, निर्मला ग्यावलि लाई एकपटक् सम्झनी पो हो कि?

के आज महिला स्वोतन्त्रत्को रुपमा बद्द्धो पस्चात्य भएर नितम्ब र बछ्य प्रदर्शन गर्ने महिला ले नरित्वो को सहि प्रतिनिधित्वो गर्छ हो? के त्एसो गर्द नारी को सम्मान बद्छ हो? के त्येस्मा महिला आँफै ले योनिक वा कामुख हुन खोज्दा महिला लाई झन योनको बस्तुको रुपमा हेरिन्दैन र? यो प्रश्नको के जवाफ छ तपाईंजस्ता नारी अधिकार र नारी अस्मिताको अफुलाई ठेकेदार ठान्ने मान्छेमा ? आज नममा  जसरी महिला लाई एक बस्तुको रुप्मा प्र्योग गर्ने सन्स्कार जती बदी छ त्यो पक्कै पनि प्रचिन सन्स्कार मा थिएन नै।

अब आउन स्वोस्थानि मा महिला को अङ्ग प्रत्यङ को कुर गरिएको छ, स्वोस्थानि आँफैन्मा एउत योन शिक्षा पनि हो आँफैन्मा एधी तपाईं त्एस्लाई साकारत्मक रुप्मा लिना सक्नुचुन्छ भने। प्रचिन्कल्मा योन शिक्षा आजको जस्तो त पक्कै नहुन्धो हो। Human Anatomy को बारेमा ज्ञान दिने आफ्नै धर्मिक तरीका थियो। त्येसैकै एउता प्रारुप हो यो स्वोस्थनी। नारी र पुरुष दुबइका योन जिज्ञासा हुन्छ एक अर्काको भितरी  शररिक कुरमा, क् यो नकर्त्मक हो र? स्वोस्थनी बच्चा देखी बुढा सबैले सुन्ने भएको ले एस्ले केही योन जिज्ञासा त मेटेको छ नि होइन? फेरी सतिदेवीको अङ लाई तल्लो तवरले लेहिएको छ र? योनी, गूड्धद्वर, स्तन, आधी आधी लेहिएको छ र हरेक अङ पाटन भको स्थानमा सक्थिपिठ को स्थापना हुनु भनेको नारिको अपमन हो र?

मेरोबिचरामा एस्ता परम्परा र धर्मिक कुराहरु गर्दा ज्ञानीमन्छे हरु बढी सम्बेधनसिल भएर लेख्ने गर्छन्। सभ्य समाजको सैली हो त्यो। महिला अधिकारको अंदोलनमा लागेका ले एस्तो कु तर्क गरी महिला को उत्थान हुन्छ त?

 Basically, using the same argument as hers, one might say

1. Ramayan must be rewritten. Because, well, who believes that a monkey can help a human so intelligently? Or who believes that they can build a bridge?
2. Mahabharat must be rewritten. Because, well, who believes that a charioteer can show Vishwaroop to Arjun?

And so on and so forth. This woman wants science , as defined according to today's standard, in the books written thousands years ago. She wants to rewrite? Well, I bet her Swasthani would be like this:

Chapter 1. About the origin of Universe. This follows word by word from Physics Bang Bang Theory textbook.
Chapter 2. About the tale of Goma: Her Goma would be 27 years old, unmarried, women rights activists wearing shirt and pants. Her Shiva Sharma Brahmin would be 31 years old, whom  Goma denounces as too old and refuses to marry. She instead chooses a 21 years old boy for herself, like Manisha Koirala.
Chapter 3. When this young man goes abroad, Goma serves him a divorce notice, after hearing the rumor that he might be careless about the fidelity.
Chapter 4. Her son, Navaraj, now grows up. Goma is NGO activist, who suddenly finds herself in trouble with accountants. She is fired. When she is extremely in need of money, seven party leaders show up, and offer her a job to lead protest against King Gyanendra. She does that, fighting side by side along old Chhaya Devi Parajuli. The leaders offer her a post of minister after Andolan. She really thanks lord Shiva (he finally shows up here) for rescuing her.
Chapter 5. Now Navaraj acts like a king. The party of Goma has a Elephant as a electoral symbol. Navaraj's wife, Chandravati, kicks at police officer in Pokhara as she bounces around the country behaving like a new queen. Meanwhile, a deranged crazy prince, Paras, shoots her and she is paralyzed. That's when she remebers lord Shiva and visits Kamal Jain's "Health Care Center" in Sanga for her ayurvedic therapeatuic treatment.
Chapter 6. Needless to say, she becomes well and she is looking at Shali Nadi from her vehicle when low level party workers go to greet her and bring her back to Kathmandu where Navaraj, himself embroiled in different scandles, have now reformed himself and is planning to contest an election.
And so on and so forth. This is what a new Swasthani would look like, I guess.
