 Hello sajha Folks,
I am graduating with MPH-Biostatistics in May and i need some info/suggestions on the Job perspective.
Where to look for jobs ? I know it is difficult to get jobs in the current recession but how's the field of Biostatistics ? What kind of Job can i get with Masters Degree ?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Arrogant,

It's surprising to see your question about how is the job market, where can you get the job at the end of Master's degree. Did you start this program just to pass the time? During the course you should have made interaction with friends, seniors professors, etc about the scope and job oppertunity. Anyway you should start looking the openings now along with final semester work for graduation. Here is my advise
* Contact the seniors who graduated from your college and working and expand networking.
* talk to advisor/professors for reference, You will need recommendation letters from them later.
* look for the openings in www.indeed.com. It collects most of the openings.

By the time you have to prepare your resume, learn about interview techniques. Many colleges have division to help prepare the job market.

I think the Job market in the field of Biostatistics is pretty good right now compared to other fields. But to work as a Biostatistician, you'll need some hands on experience in the industry. However you can start as a Biostatistician I and get some experience then eventually that will lead you to a good position..You can also work as a SAS Programmer, Statistical Analyst/Programmer etc..Prepare your resume now and apply for jobs around March if you're graduating in May.

@Kanchha-dai----I think everybody does what you said but that's just the saying, it doesn't work out all the time. People need more inputs from the people in the same field or who went through same process..
You always see people in sajha asking about F1, H1, how/where/when to apply OPT and other similar questions like that, right ? But why ? They can ask their advisor ? But they want answers from the individuals who have done the process so that it sounds encouraging and easier.

Just my 2 cents.

arrogant bro,
it would be a good idea to go to the career counsellor at your college, they are the ones who will have a better idea.
there are lot of biostatistician positions open in Pharmas and Biotechs, but they would rather give priority to the one with  PhD or would hire someone with  a degree in Biostat, not just as a major in Public health.  So you should rather try University Medical centers or non profit organizations where they need a  data analyst/statistician combo.  Other position you can try is Medical writer in Pharmas and biotechs,  where they need a degree in Publich Health and some statistical knowledge would have an edge compared to others.  And as guy_tensed suggested, you can go for a Stat programmer position, but you might have to go through a contracting agency, coz most companies dont hire entry level programmers.

anyway, good luck !!!

One of my friend and the same degree and he got a Job in Abbott Laboratories in Chicago as a Statistician/Biostatistician. . It truly depends on your Luck. I think most of the University Medical Centers, they're looking people with MPH-Biostatistics and also Hospitals. There should be plenty of jobs in the field...Take enough statistics/biostatistics course.

Good Luck
