Sathiharu,

Has anyone taken a student loan in the US for graduate education? If yes, did you need a US cosigner? Could you shed some light on the process of acquiring such loans and the general terms (interest, payment options etc.)?

As far as I know, F1s do qualify for education loans. However, most loans require a co-signer who is an American citizen. Some big colleges (like the ivy league ones) also offer loans without a co-signer. I am just wondering whether anybody at sajha who has taken such loan could inform us about the repayment options, interest rates that they encountered.

I doubt in the US anyone would co-sign just because you know the person or come from the same country. I would avoid asking that favour if I were you unless it is from a close family member.
