Dear friends,

I am looking for a software that records both audio and video that is  played on my screen. To tell you more, i am attending an online IT class, and the instructor does not provide the recording for free, ($ 10/recording). He will be giving 20 lectures.. (for $200). so i want to record what he shows on my screen. Its very very helpful to have the recording and practice.

He is fine if we record his lectures.. so copyright issues can be ignored.

Please, please suggest me what options I have.  Needless to say, i need a free software if available. demo version works fine, as long as i can save the lecture and play later.

thanks in advance.

As wakkadikka mentioned, Camtasia is one option. Another one would be Morae (which is made by the same company, TechSmith). Both of them have their own advantages and disadvantages but for your case, I believe Camtasia would be a better option.

camtasia is NOT the best solution. You need a microphone if you want to be able to hear it later. Without that, you'll see only the video. Think about that. Getting the right type of microphone is a whole new world.
Depending on machine, camtasia is a CPU hog and it take a bit of time for him to get used to it, file can he huge.
Your best and easiest solution is a video camera.
Good luck.

@Rewire . have u ever used camtasia? you dont need any microphone to hear it later. All you have to do is select the audio in format to stereo mix. Thats it and you will be able to hear audio and video both after recording.

@wakka
so u're saying just by selecting audio in, the computer will automatically start recording the voice of the instructor without a microphone? It will record the inbuilt sound like clicking, double clicking or play a music, all will be recorded. But how's the instructor voice going to record? Think bro.. Just don't give people useless suggestion. He wants to be able to hear what the instructor says along with the video, how do you think the computer will record his voice without a microphone?
I've used it more than you...

Thank you my friends for your response

Immediately,  after i posted this question, i searched online and came up with camstudio. that was working fine for video.. but for audio, it was not. I think that was due to the problem in my microphone port. it detects no sound at all.  I will try all available and suggested softwares, then tell you the best one (from my point of view).

rewire bro, thanks for your concern. I dont mind using the microphone, because that will be used to interact with my instructor.

once again, thank you all my friends..
