Is it possible?

My mom is coming from Nepal to the US. I know it is okay to buy ticket online when you go from US to Nepal; I'm not sure, though, if it works the same for other way round? Anybody experienced on this matter? Or, how about getting a ticket from a travel agency based in the US for a flight that originates from KTM?

Also, is there a way to book a ticket online with open date (valid for 6 months)? If not, what is the fee range to change the tentative return date ( the date you put when you get the ticket) to the actual return date?

Yes it is possible to book a ticket online for example on orbitz originating from KTM. But I strongly suggest you not to because the rates will be very high if you issue a ticket from a country other than where it is originating from.

I recommend you use a Nepali travel agency in Nepal. A few America-based Nepali travel agencies have full service travel agencies in Kathmandu, you should get a better rate from them than most other agencies.

Look at all the ads in this website and see if any of them do tickets from KTM. Also, an open ticket is possible, but will cost you a little more, maybe you would be better off buying a confirmed date ticket and then change later. Ask your travel agent for details.

Hope this helps.

NepaliLahure, I sincerely appreciate your taking time and replying to my post.

The problem is Nepali travel agencies (in Nepal) have hard time confirming a ticket; I don't know if it is the outdated Amadeus software (?) they use or something else, but none of the 3-4 travel agencies I contacted have been able to tell me the ticket has been confirmed despite my giving pretty good time range (i.e of about 2 weeks starting end of July to 2nd week of August). Although, I've not been pleased with the price, when I do try online, I get the instant response.

Slackdemic, I bought two tickets (Origninating from Nepal) for my parents from travel agents based in US. They are flying to US in first week of July and via India. Since June and July are the tourist season (that's what the travel agent say), the rate would be really high. The tickets from other than India would cost around $2000 per ticket and via India I paid $1750 for one ticket (Travel house Nepal).  I was also offered a rate of $1550 per person (Peace Land Travel) but that was too late so I ended up paying $1750. I contacted all the travel agents advertised here in Sajha. I found Travel House Nepal, Peace Land Travel and Zen Travel very helpful. Others were not of much help. They also accept credit cards. So, you may try contacting them. I also contacted some of the travel agents in Nepal. The rates they quoted were not much different than what was quoted by travel agents based in US. I think this information is helpful to you.

Bought tickets for my in-laws (Nepal - USA - Nepal) through Travel House (you can see their ad up on Sajha banner).  It was e-ticket.  No problem whatsoever.
