Do you know about google voice? I've tried US, Canada and Nepal, it works! Calls are free to US and Canada only, but text is free worldwide(?), at least it always goes to Nepal.

The thing is that with Google voice you need a Smart-Phone. This technique works with any phone that is capable of sending and receiving texts and does not require a data plan. If I am correct, I believe Google voice is only free within United States.
i could not send SMS to nepal any idea? using google voice
badure, you need to have a google voice number ( your service provider number when linked to google voice doesn't seem to work). Here's the screen shot. I just sent an sms to a friend of mine at KTM and he instantly received it.
Tuttle, from what I understand, Texting through Google voice outside the US uses some credit but in the US it's free, am I right? I am not sure is why I am asking, let me know Cheers
bstaralways, it seems that GV is not charging...the credit it had provided when I'd my account open ($ 0.10)...is still the same! hmmmm..I wonder that remains same forever :)

Tuttle, to send texts on google voice, do you have to be on the computer or can you do it through your phone (any phone, not just smartphone)? let me know.
If you have access to internet (wireless or data plan) thru your phone and have any browser.you should be able to use this service..I've not personally tried thru phones other than iphone, windows mobile, and android...Bottomline, time to get rid of your text plan.
