Hi,
It has been close to 6 months since I received a DWI in US.
And now I am planning on applying for citizenship to Canada. But I am worried about the effects of DWI. Even though DWI is a federal misdemeanor (contrary to DUI), is it gonna show up on the police report that needs to be submitted causing me the denial of the citizenship?
I need to know this asap so that I can take a decision to move forward with applying for the Canadian citizenship. I might end up loosing all the money and time if there are chances they might deny the citizenship based on this.
Therefore, please share any similar experiences you may have regarding this.
Thanks,
Dreamworks
Are you talking about Canadian PR or Citizenship?
SickNTired,
I am talking about PR. I apologize for the confusion. :-)
Thanks
to apply for canadian PR you need FBI clearance report which is what the canadain immigration says police report. so to get FBI clearance report, first you need police report from all the places (Including USA as well as outside Usa) where you have stayed more than 6 months. i believe that your police report will definitely pull your DWII information. i don't know FBI will mention this information on your clearance report or not. you better consult with expert.
good luck
