Tension in Langpih area of North East India (theshillongtimes.com)

SHILLONG: Khasi and Jaintia people residing in Langpih have decided to go ahead with development of the playground of a school despite alleged opposition by a section of the Nepali community in the disputed area on the inter-state border.

Khasi and Jaintia villagers of the area in a meeting held on Thursday decided that they would come out publicly on Friday to ensure that work on the playground of Raid Mynsaw Upper Primary School was not disrupted by the Nepali community

"People of the area have decided to publicly come out in support of construction of the Raid Mynsaw Upper Primary School playground," Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Langpih Area president T Nonglang said.

Trouble erupted again in the area on Wednesday when some people belonging to the Nepali community allegedly disrupted work on the playground of the school leading to exchange of heated words between the Garo-Khasi and Nepali communities. The situation returned to normal after arrival of the Assam Police.

Nepalese in India are suffering humilation and discrimination to the magnitude beyond imagination.

But why are they opposing the construction of the school playground? Is it their land? Are they being evicted?
