hello my sajha friends, i have a question for you all. we are all from nepal. we speak a language called nepali, am i right and we call our selves nepalese from nepali or do we call our selves nepali from nepal. can someone please clarify. damfu

Mount Everest it is as simple as this. First Nepali is a language of khas people (bahuns and chettris) and so identifying any other group as Nepali would be wrong (which is the reason for identity crisis in Nepal these days). Second Nepalese describes people of Nepal and does not choose any particular group to identify with and Americans know this so they call us Nepalese and not Nepali. So next time someone asks you what is your nationality? You let them know you are from Nepal and are Nepalese and then if you would like to identify youself with your ethnic groups then go on to explain that as well.

hey Mr. last Buddha, keep in mind that American did not call all people from Nepalese, but its by the rule and system. As people from China R Chinese, so does Nepalese. So its by English system. So never try to say watever u want N falsify the reality.

Ne23pe, I like you explanation... good job.. I totally agree with that. Nepal actualy is from NEPA. Khas/Gorkha language was forcefully called Nepali language in country called Nepal. That's another topic to debate.

I don't think there something to debate about it. If we start debating on such issues, no progress but clashes occur all the time. Sabaiko satru is right here. It is as simple as that. People of Nepal, i.e. Nepali, according to Nepali grammar, call AMERIKI for Americans. That's due to grammar. i.e. if the place's name end's with KI, the nationality ends with KI. If the place's name ends with LA, the nationality ends with LI. Hence, AMERIKI and NEPALI So,mounteverest, its NEPALI in nepali, Nepalese in English as it is AMERIKI in nepali, and American in English

Propensity.. your logic is also right.. But khas/Gorkha bhasa cannot be called Nepali bhasa. From NEPAL you cannot call NEPALI bhasa can you.. but people of Nepal were forced to call khas/Gorkha bhasa as NEPALI bhasa.. which is wrong. Do you call Urdu language Pakistani language? You cannot defend NEPALI language to correct by using Grammar.. it's absurd. NEPAL BHASA is NEWA Bahasa. IT came from NEPA.. and always since beginning Newa bhasa was called NEPAL BHASA.. that's why we are accepted in UN.. not for Nepali bhasa. Je ma Bhaya.

Now i have to write something Why do you write against nepali language as a national language? It is dominated by english and hindi nowdays. And JANAJATI frens, Can you say that there is an increase in mother tongue users than your childhood? I know that many friends are forgetting their mother tongue. So before going to make your language as a national language, think about saving your culture and language within your society first. You will be proud then.
