Slackademic wrote: I don't think a chat on the Internet chat-room can be a solid proof for such a case; anyone can say anything in the chat-room. Even if one is thinking to be talking to a pretty and young lady, it could be a real ugly and fat woman; and vice versa. Even when you write the research papers for the courses in school, most online sources (that just come off the internet, for instanse, just by googling) are NOT considered reliable sources, and not accepted. How can someone's chat can imply his/her true feelings? It’s not your logic or mine, it’s the law. Interestingly it’s the state law not federal that plays vital role in the scenario you have given. In Texas, just having an explicit chat with a minor and soliciting for sex over the internet is enough to put you behind bars. That’s what happened to the D.A. in Texas. Now, logically speaking, Mr. Bishta had a whole month to put things into perspective and 4 hours to question his intention during the drive. If him actually driving down to meet the girl cannot imply his/her true feeling, then I don’t know what can Well, the other side of the coin can also be, since he knows about the dateline program, so how can we not believe that he really believed that the girl was adult; therefore, despite knowing the fact there are ambushes where he could be trapped, he still kept talking to the girl. No where he mentioned he doubted the age of the girl. He did it because he simply thought the girl wasn’t involved in Dateline. He took a shot, that’s for sure. Let’s say your argument holds true and he actually thought the girl is not underage, then wouldn’t it still be risky and unethical to meet her when she claims all the way that she indeed is a minor? And having said all that, I am not trying to defend the guy, but I just don't believe this is the right practice of catching the bad guys. Now we are talking. This probably is too aggressive, but without being aggressive we cannot stop the predators out there who can easily lure the kids. Dateline intention is ratings, but something good has come out of this. Just like the decoy lied, I am sure there will be many times, if not there has been already, when the sexually active underage teenager boy will drive to decoy. And that time, I believe that the decoy should deserve the same punishment Mr Bista supposedly deserves today. That’d be like charging a spy who poses as terrorist, as a real terrorist. I guess I understand what you are trying to say, but it’s not coming out right.

yes if enter this country you must repect the law. That's all about it. No excuses for Mr. Bista his intention good enough not the crime(paji). You guys talk about first amendment that's bulls**t, constitution is not defacto. There are more than 19 amendments to it which means it changes over time and period. Judgement is the biggest problem here.Having said that, here is some fact though: 1.those decoy put their actual age 99 if you read their profile( do u know this?). 2.few month before a doctor never talk about sexual thing at all but he showed up at house claiming that kid was in trouble he wanted to help but got busted, lost his license. so don't even talk minor period. 3.few years back a japanese student was shot during hollween party, he was lost. The guy who shot claimed his holloween uniform made him scared and got free.(strange country) So the morale is if you are in strange country with strange law be smart careful. This is not your country.Don't be fooled by movie you watched in nepal and act like everything is free here. THis country, if you are not smart there are so many vultures out there to get you, learn and survive. About entrapment, it may be true and Dateline did it for big rating(and money), but this country is based on success. Now who is successful Mr. Bista or dateline? so shut up...

DWI: Whole transcript of the chat was neve revealed. "Whole months of putting things into perspective" can equally be applicable to the other side of the story I mentioned. All that one month he was convinced that the girl was an adult, and went to check if the girl was really an adult, and have sex if so was so. So, absolutely there is no chance that one teenage boy can lie about his age to have sex with the girl he meets on the Internet? Why should not the decoy be punished exploiting an underage kid? I know we all are playing with logics here, but I still think that this is the ill practice of the law. Not that I am a law student or I have the best alternatives, but my closed mind can't concieve that it is right to entrap someone through the Internet and label him as a child predator.

While Deepak Bista can claim that "his intentions" were not to have sex with 13 yr old - and he was thinking her as >18, law demands that he has proof of that thinking. There are too many proofs to show him as a pedophile. And of course, does any one REALLY think that he was "trapped"? NO! He is a criminal. He would try to have sex with any Nepali's 13 yr old girl if he could. Such an insects are potential criminals and GOOD ON YOU Chris Hanson and US police, you nabbed him in time. One thing, however, is that catching these petty criminals shouldn't give them false sense of security, coz there are more dangerous criminals who have already committed more henious crime and they should not be distracted away from them. I am a Nepali, and I don't have any sympathy over that rotten guy.

If u r staying in USA than you must be aware of the LAW in UNITED STATES. So MR Bista deserve the punishment. All other nepali living in USA must learn the lesson from Mr Bista incident.

He deserves that for sure. What would he do if a guy comes to his house to have a foul play with her own 13 years old sister. Shame on him. I am sure there are enough girls who are older enough for him.
