I have been addicted to public transit for last 6 years and have never owned a car or know anything about it. Now my work requires me to travel and hence I have to find one..I am looking to start with something that is 3-4k.., which runs..No need for fancy things..
PLease provide me a list of things that I need to consider before buying a used car..
thank you
Ask for a test drive and take it to a garage ( if you know any or your co-worker knows any), have a mechanic check it.
Once you find out the good is condition, ask the owner whats the least you can go. (Dont give your price first) listen what he can come down to and then give them little low price then move your self up...

Good Luck
Find a Dealer person and go to dealer auction where you can find nice cars.

I sell both New and Pre-Owned Toyotas. Call me at 617-469-7180, I may be able to help you.
for 2 K
don't go to the dealers they'll fk u up..........find the cars from cars.com or craiglist as suggested above...
test drive is very important...don't just drive in speed limit go way over limit....since it's a test drive... avoid thelistening to the radio...because you might not be able to listen to the noise made by car....try driving it really hard. it will show lots of hidden problems....
reagarding ur engine and transmission....
also pay attention to the hissing ( even when all the windows are rolled up...you get this windy noise) and grinding of the engines...
