Declaration of a secular state doesn't mean that Hinduism is banned in Nepal. Secularism doesn't mean that all Hindu Temples and shrines will be demolished. Secularism means an equal status and opportunity to flourish all religions of the country. Majority of the population are Hindus. It doesn't mean that the country has to be declared Hindu. By doing so, we just dominate other religions.

And Newari Demonstration? Its not a demonstration or protest rally. Its a support rally for the country being declared a secular state.

Imi, What the hell are you talking about? Are you trying to say that Newaris and Janajatis are not hard working? That is not true and a lot of people will find that offensive. In spite of all the hard work, some people may not reach their potential and recognition because of discrimination. You are flip flopping in your argument about being spoon feeding. No one is asking to be spoon fed. All they are asking for is equal opportunity for all religions and ethinic groups. On one hand you are saying that no one should be spoon fed but you want special treatments for you because of your religion. That is a double standard. Don't you think so?

dude, my instance has never been double standard .i am not saying they are not hard working or anything.I am saying .System doesn't really matter it is individual who makes the difference.i am not blaming newar or any janjati out here .How can i go against newar.:).that is why my logic and reason for keeping nepal hindu has never been based upon upliftment crap.Look at affirmative action .how successful it has been???And newars donot belong to that category.I am just pointing out the closeness of newar and hinduism .So , i don't think newars are getting things right here.

Imi, I do not think you have a right to say whether Newars should celebrate or not. I am sure they know what is best for themselves. How would you feel if someone told you what you should eat for your dinner? So you should stop poking at other people's business. Probably, Newars have such strong culture and heritage that they do not feel threatened by secularism like you do. After all, secularism is not banning any one from following their religion or culture. In addition, you are practicing double standards. On one hand you say that minorities should stand on their own feet and only hard work will make them successful. On the other hand you ask for special treatment for Hindus. I see double standard there. Don't you? I agree with you that ultimately you need hard work to be successful in any system. However, hard work will bring you success but system also matters. Think about the scenario if you were born as dalit woman in Nepal. Would you have got the same opportunties and would you have reached wherever you are without the advantage you received partly due to your religion?

I think Capital of Nepal should now be somewhere else. Hello newars, c'mon fight for that... chase all bahuns out from Kathamndu.. this is your chance.. demand that capital be moved from Kathamndu to soemwhere else... so that you newars can devlop yourself inside the Valley... If Shah dynasty gonna end, then why not bring back the Valley in the state prior to Prithvi Narayan Shah?

kalki kapil and amrit joshi are hilarious - i wonder where they get their facts from! their minds are filled with big ideas, images, and distorted facts!! thanks to lonely1 and dreamz for setting the record straight. the newar community's march was in support of Secular Nepal. This was partly a "Hoshiyar" march to remind the government not to give in to the demand of the India-based Hindu fundamentalist orgs and their Nepali stooges' demand. They were, moreover, seeking official recognition for their NEWA language, which should have been granted ages ago. Likewise the Janjati Adivashis marked yesterday as a "Black Day", to remember the supreme court's past biased historic decision to strike at the spirit of multicultural, multilingual, and multi-religious reality of Nepal by failing to recognize the language demands of various groups of Nepal. These groups want the state to recognize the use of mother languages at local level as well as as medium of instructions at schools. They were also out in support of the government's declaration re: secular Nepal as well as the incumbents not to give into the Hindu fundamentalists!

dude Pat, i had nothing to do with my religion where i am right now .ok you are just getting everything wrong. This is social structure not religious .You need to realize that. Social change is needed but think even in most developed countries poor has remained poor.Let me tell you our family had to work had though i came from hindu . hinduism and being upper caste didn't gave us treasure. So u need to realize that.I never asked state to fund hinduism or anything since hinduism in integral part of our culture and heritage .Also being newar , i think it is nothing to celebrate .The newar are getting wrong out here cause they are demanding there language they are mad with shah dynasty and crap.I believe that it is right of newar to preserve their language but to demand and trying to get something out of secularism is totaly wrong.I am newar and i know lot of newar who still thinks hindu country would have been better so how can you say newar community as whole support secularism .It is individual preference not communial. You need to realize that.and let me reiterate i neverhad and will never have double standard in my argument .Let it be political ,social or anyother issues. What i believe is what i believe if i am wrong or i offended somebody i had apolozied .i have changed my view but never had double standard .pat so i pat you back .got it buddy:)

Fundamentalists are the ones who are so insecure so inept so ill informed within their religious awareness that they seek state legislation to make themselves legitimate and remind themselves of their identity. Such are some of the people here who want theocracy above democracy. Makes me laugh and makes me sad.

Don't laugh and don't be sad:(.State just by being named hindu had equal non descimination law towards all.as in any secular country. If you are so concerned of true democratic practices then the things that are going now in nepal should definately make you sad .No doubt about it.

hahahahaahaha. sorry chatmadude..you could not make sense out of it. i am just saying that this is not the matter of laughing or being sad that people are like this because people are always like this.Difference in opinion is what makes things going. I am not saying i am perfect but no one is perfect either. Nepal though being hindu state always had non descrimination laws .Law is not the problem.Problem is people and its implementation. But if you implied you are sad because there is no real democracy in Nepal.then you should be cause even after such achievements,Our leaders don't really know how to follow democractic process. What are they going to teach others??Same cheap temporary popularity stunts without ability to see future.

hey kalki kapil, why do you like the nepalese people should devide and form different organization on the basis of certain caste or community? Some clever people in certain community are trying to wash the brain of people and trying to divide and they want to rule by using divide and rule policy. People should be aware from those stupid leader or people.

I just read this thread for the first time...I completely agree with KalkiKapil...if Newars weren't there Nepal would have lost out to SPAMmer terrorists... Respect of one's country and culture is very important and Newars know that. We must have immense respect for all communities because they stand for One Nepal...we must continue our fight against terrorism and corruption and Government of terrorrism...together we can do anything! DON't believe in KANTIPUR: I mean even if rallies are taken out against SPAMmer terrorists it says that the rallies were in support of SPAMmer terrorists...No one believes Kantipur and Nepalnews...so give us stuffs from other media.
