Hey folks, when I was in Nepal few months ago in Nepal, I was about to puke. So many restaurants in Kathmandu sell dishes made of beef. I myself wondered if it is legal to do that. I think after Prajatantra dawned in Nepal, situation has changed and I TOTALLY DISAGREE with allowing to sell beef in Nepal. It is wrong to kill, consume, and sell beef in Nepal.

I don't understand what's so big deal to sell beef. Afterall, if you are a hindu and religious, you would opt not to buy beef even if offered, wouldn't you? Or are your beliefs and convictions so fragile that they get shattered by the sight of beef being sold or the delicious stake being grilled on the sidewalks of Nepal?

i would agree to consume beef that were farmed specifically for meat (cattle) purpose. there should be a moral issue to consuming cow that were farmed for milk, religion and spirituality.

Hear hear, if someone wants to consume beef, let him/her consume beef. What's the beef* on that? If you are religiously inclined not to eat beef, then that is your prerogative. But why impose your values on others? Anyway, this "one and only hindu kingdom" propaganda is bunch of bull*. (*pun intended) I, for one, love eating steak. Outback is my favorite restaurant chaing. Porterhouse is my favorite cut.

Steaks (medium rare.. yum.. ) are made from those cows that are specifically raised for food... not milk or reproduction. So, it's like eating chicken, pork, khasi et al.

beef or no beef that is not my priority, i do not eat beef but i don't care if somebody does it is their choice, however our priority should be restoration of a secular democratic and if possible a republic nepal.

Yes, the restaurant is from the Maoist heartland. They are known to run such "sajha", "sahakari" etc "hotels" in their strongholds, and beef is a regular feature of their menu. I also remember reading reports stating that villagers were often forcefully fed beef by the Maoists. To my understanding, cow slaughter is prohibited in Nepal but consumption of beef is not. For the very reason, beef, legally imported from India and possibly elsewhere, is commonly served in restaurants in tourist areas such as Thamel and Lakeside, Pokhara.
