ईँटाको डङ्गुर बराबर काठमान्डु
just looks too conjusted and irregular
no planning... जताततै घरै घर, गाडि गुड्ने ठाँउ छैन :-(
god damn whatz this?? home building competition??
What do you think about it?
the first pixture is a concrete jungle...and the second is one aspect of the said jungle.
Let us pray ... no earthquake will happen when somebody is inside this house.
Looks like there is one room per floor in the second pic - I guess a garage or shop on the ground floor, a living room on the first, a bedroom on the next two, and a kitchen on the top floor! Lots of excercise for the people living in that house.
:)
isn't there any housing laws in nepal??? seems like KTM will soon be having skyscrapers...of course the one that will float in the clouds in no time
in closer inspection of the first pic-one can see identical black and blue wanter tanks on house tops. i read a while ago that they are planning to build a 25 storey apartment complex or something in ktm....they claimed that the ktm soil is strong enough to sustain a 25 storey edifice. i dont think so.
I took the picture of the tall building at Nardevi... There is a shop in the first floor.
Captain Haddock, motorcycle can fit in anywhere....... who needs a garage
I thought it was a shop too - seemed more likely than a garage for the reason you pointed out.
Yo photo haru kata kata ko ho? Kripaya lekhi-dinu hola. I am very curious.
I saw a similar one room wide building that was 8 stories tall on New Road. I was thinking the guy who lives at the top floor must be very very very healthy because of all the ups and downs he has to do every day.
One single store front on New Road will get you rent of around Rs.25,000/mth. The room above can fetch Rs.10,000/mth, usually rented for storage by the business downstairs. With Rs.35,000/mth income, a family can live quite comfortably, don't you think?
do they tax rental income in nepal?
Keep in the list the names of all those responsible in Kath MahaNagarpalika (formerly Nagar Panchayat), and Physical Planning Ministry who authorized the construction or ignored the illegal construction after taking bribes. God forbid, if a devastating earthquak hits Kathmandu, we should find those people even into their graves and punish them.
With all these haphazard constructions, and possibility of an earthquake closer, Kathmandu is like a timebomb ready to explode.
Remember, in Gujarat a few years ago, more people were killed due to sub
standard construction when an earthquak occured.
There is still time to save Kathmandu from becoming a disaster.....must learn a lesson from a recent earthquake in the region.
Hmmmmm
i've heard that...if a devastating earthquake hits kathmandu, more ppl will die due to the lack of rescue than by earthquake itself.... there's a socity called NSET (National Society for Earthquake Technology) according to them, it requires more than 2 months to reach to the core of maru( which is near Hanuman dhoka) for the rescue operation...
isn;t it sad??
Dear Birkhe_Maila,
Earthquake as such doesnot kill anybody. These buildings are going to kill people. And of course you can never take ambulance or Damkal to these house even if there is no earthquake.
I saw the NSET study and they were calculating the amount of wood required to burn the dead ( arrgh !!!)
Let me give one more picture.... I took this picture near Bhotahity.....
They call it Handshake Building :-)
