Dear GBNC Members, We are in the process of making GBNC a tax exempt organization. IRS record shows that GBNC became a tax-exempt organization in 1998; however, no tax filings were done by GBNC with the IRS since 1998, hence, we can not apply for tax-exemption under our current name. We at the GBNC council are considering changing GBNC name. I urge all of you to suggest GBNC council a new name for GBNC. I need you opinion in this regard. Please post your comment here or call me at 617-548-2219 or e-mail me at suryathapa@hotmail.com, president@gbnc.org Regards, Surya Thapa President, Greater Boston Nepalese Community (GBNC)

Lets not think of changing the name yet...It will be like G. Bush making case for the attack of Iraq. Lets look for the avenues to revive the GBNC itself. Bhadgaule suggested of "New England Nepalis. This would give the organization a more of a regional identity." My thought: There should be one umbrella organization like that but lets put that aside for now. As the population and the interest of the Nepalese are getting swollen and diverse everyday, the GBNC will not and has not been able to cater the interest of all the people, which is natural. So lets define what GBNC should do or limit its activities like Dashain Party or New years party and we all will come togather. For other activities and interests, we will have to split into smaller groups. Otherwise it will become more disorganized and chaotic. To coordinate, bond and coalease all these: we need an umbrella organization, probably New England Nepalese Society. Lets listen to what others have to say. I think its high time to the voices of the CONCERNED Nepalese. Afulai Nepali bhanna garo manne haruko ta ke sunai bho ra? PS: I have a suspicion that Damodar and Dadagiri are the same person...It took 9 minutes for Damodar to post the message after Dadagiri expressed or is it just a Tathastu thingy.

Here is a link to the form for the APPLICATION OF REVIVAL http://www.sec.state.ma.us/cor/corpdf/180arev.pdf Surya, Can you please clearify the tax exempt status of GBNC. "IRS record shows that GBNC became a tax-exempt organization in 1998; however, no tax filings were done by GBNC with the IRS since 1998, hence, we can not apply for tax-exemption under our current name."

I strongly disagree with changing name of GBNC. Did Mr. President get approval for changing name from the board of directors and, most importantly, from GBNC community members? Mr. President, why would you consider changing name of GBNC if there is way, as Shirish pointed out, to straighten things out for GBNC tax exempt status with IRS? I strongly echo my opinion with Shirish and GP (except GP's view on capitalism :)).GBNC is one of the oldest Nepali organization in the U.S. Its name carries a history of Nepalese diasporas living in the New England area. Please do not undermine GBNC's history and its importance. Trust me, changing name of already established organization makes a lot of difference. So many dedicated volunteers have kept this organization running so far. Mr. President, try to work out with IRS to keep the same name. Ask for help with GBNC community. They sure will help you on this. Bostonian Nepali

What about this for a name? Vanguard Of The Nepali Proletariat Living In The Greater Boston Area And Their Well Wishers Worldwide Sounds a little long, but I am sure the acronym will be manageable.

Should this work: This is not typical nepali politically orientiated. It has eyes opening meaning. We as a Nepal (BONE), gives meaning full sense not only to Nepali communinty also to all society. Everybody could easily understand the meaning. "BONE" or "BONE LLC" BO: this stands for first two letters from Boston and NE: this stands for first two letters from either Nepal or Nepali, Nepalese According to meaning search : Bone means: The dense, semirigid, porous, calcified connective tissue forming the major portion of the skeleton of most vertebrates. It consists of a dense organic matrix and an inorganic, mineral component.

Romanticized (who conceptulized BONE) Not a bad idea. And I would like to classify that hard calcified tissue. (i have gained my notoroity by classifying people: men and women and in the process of classifying guests) 1. Supporting Bone: helps once a while other wise passive with the activities. Orgs need these. 2. Main bone: that takes the whole load of the organization: from the planning phase of the activities to the execution. Oh spines of a organization. 3. Knucle bone: Not only criticizes the activities of the organization but also become physical once a while. This kind can become very useful if handled properly. 4. Jaw bone: One who talks only and delivers minimum. Worst kind. I did a quick search at the mass.gov (non profit and corporation) with the greater boston nepalese community and nothing came up. However there was a company called GBNC which was dissolved in 1983. I don't think it will be at all a problem to re-register with the same name/ acronym GBNC.

BOSTONIAN NEPALI "Did Mr. President get approval for changing name from the board of directors and, most importantly, from GBNC community members?" I don't think the Board of directors have a say in this at all. Cause they have not done crap. As far as the people of GBNC is concerned ..They will be glad that they finally have a legitimate organization. I really think there is something fishy going on in here. We still do not know who registered the organization as non-profit ? Why didn't the board of directors enforce the Presidents to file the taxes ? I think we should hold all the people involved accountable.. ie Board of directors, past presidents, the executive members.....etc etc WE WANT SOME ANSWERS. Once again I thank the current president for at least taking the initiative...Unlike those board of sitting ducks.

Oops, Katai GBNC ka current president le chalakhi gareka ta hoinana... As it happens in England's Mirror tabloid. With big bold chars "Past Presidents exposed..."...... Well, mathematically, England = New England - New So, whether GBNC is following same old English trick of exposing past presidents when you can not do anything NEW.... i.e. new way of exposing past president's weaknesses.... Otherwise, before exposing the weakness of past presidents "Not filing TAX stuffs: I guess is a serious weakness..." .... In last election of US Presidency, we did not see who will do best for country, but we saw a debate on who can be a less bad president. I think the thread is misleading because current President did not drill all possibilities before exposing past president's weaknesses. GP A well wisher of GBNC.

GBNC rocks, I think GBNC shouldn't change its name. That will be a stab in the back to honest members/volunteers like me who had been very proud to be a part of such a popular community. It's one of the oldest Nepalese Community in the states and it's glorius days can be hardly forgotten. As the problem stems to resolving the IRS tax exemption issues, I believe MR. President (Surya dai) or anyone from the Board should make an appeal to the IRS directly. As someone earlier posted, those issues for non-profit organizations are easier to resolve, I bet it's worth a try. But again, if there are penalties (like monetayr fines), and those penalties are not that HUGe, maybe we can find volunteers to DOnate to keep the GBNC name alive. I surely will donate. For now let's not talk about Changing the Name. Let's look for the alternatives. GO BOSton, a loyal GBNC member/volunteer proudnepali Jai Nepal
