Dear Gurlu, I am pleased our combined pleas did not fall on deaf ears. Yeehah! Now that I?ve completed the mandatory cartwheel or two to accompany that yell, might I say I am delighted with your decision? Perhaps work and life?s pressures forces on us a balancing act that has us walking a tightrope that feels too fragile to bear the load. Forcing us to pause, lest we be cast into the abyss. The sensible place to cut down on, we think, is our forays into cyber land. Which brings me to examine the concept of self itself. Do the traditional definitions stretch to include our cyber selves as a valid and accepted extension of our identity? Has society evolved sufficiently to accept the online persona as yet another facet of the fascinating complexity that makes up the human condition? Many of us here have roots in non-wired (wireless!) and traditional societies. And, as we grasp new lenses to view our lives, it sets the stage for some level of discomfort, even angst. Especially ifwe are judged to have neglected other imperatives to conduct our cyber lives. In short, Gurlu, I value your online persona and think it is a valid dimension of who you are.
