It is much safer than Gujrat in India for Muslims, Jaffna in Sri Lanka for Sinhalese, Colombo for Tamils, Manipur in India for Hindus, Kashmir for Brahmins, New York for Sikhs, London for Pakis, Paris for Sudanese, Pakistan for Hindus, Japan for Koreans, Israel for Palestinians, and China for anyone other than its military. After all, this world is an extremely unsafe place for the weak, Nepal being no exception. There also you can buy your safety by paying royal family, maoists and the army. Every top businessman is doing that. You too can do that. Best of luck.

Nonetheless, this is the best answer i have heard so far in contrast to the answer i have been hearing from fellow nepalis' living abroad who seem confident that going back to nepal other than temporary visits is almost sucidal.

This week's NEPAL magazine (see its site at kantipuronline.com) carries short but informative profiles of half-a-dozen or so young Nepali entrepreneurs who are doing good business in Nepal. Also, based on my almost four-years ko experience working very closely with Nepali private sector firms (both start-ups and established ones) in and out of Kathmandu, I would say that the people profiled by NEPAL are the "high-end" ones . . . but their stories do confirm that taking calculated risks, taking advantage of business opportunities, being determined and, yes, being lucky in Nepal in business have their own payoffs. ***** That aside, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which is a member of the World Bank Group, has just published a report titled "Doing Business in 2005". On page 119 of that report, it has a table on Nepal. i think doing business in nepal is safe for some criteria. 1. supplying weapons to moaist 2. supplying army uniform to nepal army 3. supplying food to nepal army 4. Emergency lights 5. Night visible glass ( too much load shedding)
