How to apply ITIN number (for tax purposes)
People with spouse and/or kids abroad, how did you get ITIN done? I believe Foreign Affairs Ministry issues some document but my knowledge is pretty vague.
Can someone plz shed some light?
You only need ITIN number in the US if you don't have an SSN.
Find the info below:
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/taxpayer-identification-numbers-tin#:~:text=SS%2D4PRPDF.-,ITIN,NNN%2DNN%2DNNNN).
You said Ministry of Foreign Affairs - are you talking about a Personal Accounting Number (PAN) which is the TAX Identification Number in Nepal? IF that is the case, you have to apply for a PAN number at your local Internal Revenue Department Office.
Hope this helps!
@dkhanal.. appreciate your response... spouse and kids dont have ssn yet...i filed for taxes as single filer last year and missed out on credit..and its taking too long to get their gc processes approved... and i dont wanna miss out again..
You can Amend and get refund if applicable.
