married file separate or joint which one better?
Hi , I am planning to file myself instead of stop by tax file center. I did quick estimate through turbotax by plugging the number (gross income, state hold, federal hold)for me and my spouse separate and joint one by one . but separate it shows $600.00 less tax , joint filing should be less than separate wondering how come this happened we do not have any deduction just straight W2s..
Married filing joint is always better.
Free: why pay fee?
Once you start filing tax software pushes you to use premium.

Filing Jointly you be paying 14-15% tax while single pay 25% Federal Tax. Plus your health Care deductions will be bigger too. Thats for income between 18K to 75K. Even for higher income there is atleast 5% difference between single and jointly filed ones, There u go do the math. Google federal income tax rate
