I am considering sending a tablet to Nepal as a gift. What other tablets do you recommend besides an ipad? I am guessing since ipads are so popular, they are easier to fix in case screens get broken, etc. Appreciate your help!

if price is no issue, send ipad. paune le pani bhanos na ipad pathayo bhanero. for ill informed people, ipad vs rest is like made in japan vs made in china, though there might not be major difference quality wise. ITS A BRAND THING.

Thanks Bairaghi. Does it make sense to get an ipad only to use facebook and viber? I am not so sure.

just for facebook and viber, u can send under $100 cheap phablets or tablets or they can get one in Nepal quite easily. You rather send smthing that will be valubale in Nepal, like branded shoes/watches/jackets/coats, provided you get them on sale.

For Nepal you have to send iPad.. Other tablets are seen as "cheap". They wont take it outside home.. But if you give iPad they will even take it outside such as in Coffee shop..

Yo brand name mentality dekhera ni dukkha lagcha. Why should you care what others think?
You can send a no-contract phone (which uses wifi to do skype, facebook, viber, etc) and you only pay like 20-40 dollars on sale.
For example, I bought this no contract phone from Bestbuy for my family. (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/at-t-gophone-zte-maven-4g-with-8gb-memory-no-contract-cell-phone-blue/8293103.p?id=1219690432569&skuId=8293103)

@Ramas, i am sorry bro but did you send that phone to your mom or dad ? If you send it to your bro or sister then you will get hard time.
Dont forget Samsung , Lg flagship phones are way cheaper then here in US.
For mom and dad this type of phone are awesome.
I send my brother Blu with 5.5 inch and 1 gb Ram and he almost killed me.

@Facebook- That's why I said it saddens me seeing that kind of mentality in Nepal.

Thanks mercynova. I didn't know Sony and Samsung had authorized dealers in KTM. I am looking for tablets not phones.

That AT&T GoPhone is a really good deal, Ramas. Are they still using it? Is it working well?

@OP, the phone works just fine. I understand it's not a tablet, but if you were primarily looking for a device for facebook, viber, skype, etc. then this "phone" will suffice as it's 4.5" screen with 1GB of RAM. Also ATT unlocked the phone for free for me and it's a GSM phone so can be used outside of the US.

haha, yes I am aware mercynova. I was just clarifying on my side. It was not directed toward you.

That's really great Ramas. Thanks.

I am happily using BLU phone since last three months. Not that I can't afford branded phone like Samsung , LG and Motorola but I felt like I don't need to spend big amount just to get the similar functionality when I can get cheap phone. As you said, your brother almost killed you when you send BLU phone, I would be in similar situation if I send that too to my brother in Nepal. People in Nepal want free phone and that too an expensive branded phones like iPhone, Samsung Galaxy series

@rahasya may be you. (and me too) dont play heavy games on phone. So 1 gb is enough for us.

Galaxy tab s2 is quiet fast, slim n sexy, light weight,
comes with 32gb + expandable memory (main thing that matters in case of Nepal where tab is usually for watching movies n songs that r usually saved in memory),
display n camera brilliant,
& its android (easy to access with tons of flexibility than ipad).
I m damn sure u will not regret on it. (If price option doesnt matter)
