DIJA down almost 1000 in first 3 days of 2016.
Chinese stock market already halted couple of times.
Gas price in free fall.
Commodities are stagnant.

What do you say about year 2016?

May be it is a good time to be in Cash than in equities right now. 2016 may be good (too small a time-frame right now to judge) but I think it is good time to be out for now. One think is for sure that there will be a lot of volatility this year ...... if you can time properly and swing trade, you can get better returns than past years! But again it is like a 'double edged' sword......could get slaughtered.

In short, it could be an opportunity for a trader but not for an investor to take advantage of this market volatility.

Anyway, best of luck and trade carefully!

@KalikoPoi and @newBieLearner

I am new to stock market and don't wanna take much of a risk. But still think I should invest some of my savings into mutual funds or etf. I am thinking of opening an account with Merrill Edge and buy some ETFs may be of 3-5K. Any thoughts guys??

Twitter fell below $20. Except few all are trending down. I see all the energy company going down in a slope. I think this may be the indication of the Recession.
Be careful with your money. Save cash. The price is likely to follow downhill. If this continues till the end of the month, all the shares will go down like crazy.

@Ip Man, mutual funds or etf may be good idea to start with but wait some time .....let market get some equilibrium first. If you are interested in stocks, it is a good idea to start with free sock simulator - http://www.investopedia.com/simulator/. You can play around with your stock ideas without loosing real money. Read couple good introductory books - How to Make Money in Stocks: A Winning System in Good Times and Bad or The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing is a good to start with. All the best.
