Travel to Nepal using Travel Document
I am travelling to Nepal using Travel document provided by Nepalese Embassy. I will apply for MRP when I am at Nepal.
Has anyone traveled to Nepal with Travel Document? Any issue while doing so? I was expecting some sort of card or official looking document but it's rather a printed letter with Nepal embassy letter-head and my pic with a rubber-stamp on it stating he should be allowed to travel one-way.
@Munbhai
What countries did you transit through? I am travelling via Istanbul hopefully there won't be any problem.
Mine transit was Qatar. Flight was delay 4hrs so airport offer me hotel, but some nepali employee suggest why I would take risk going out of airport with expire passport. So, I just stay inside airport.
Munabhai, You do understand that 2 months ago and Now has been changed. rouge, your old passport(non MRP) will not work from Nov 24,2015 onward. You travelled before that deadline so you were good but rouge44 is traveling after the deadline so I am not sure how he can travel without valid passport. It's better to check with embassy or airlines.

Thanks for the advice. Munabhai, so you did not had to show your passport at all at customs? I was planning to show my old passport and the travel document and explain if they ask.
Sajhamitra is correct too, two months ago you did not needed a travel document since old passport was still valid. Travel documents are issued through embassy for one way entry to Nepal.
I do agree with rouge44, case now is different. you need to make sure now before travel.
I am travelling in 2 days with old passport and travel document. I will update you guys on what happens.
Ramro manchey ....you might not be able to travel to Nepal with that old passport. You can get an emergency travel doc from the embassy made withing hours.
It also depends on the airport and the airlines ...usually they will let you fly back to you home country even with expired passport.
fdpower Yeah I have emergency travel document from embassy.
FFS ITS CALLED A TRAVEL DOCUMENT. U use it to travel.
ramromanchey,
Good luck. Give us an update on your experience when you get back.
If you are an "Asylee" status, that might not be good Idea as I have heard, it will always be risky until you get the citizenship to travel to your home country. My 2 cents.

So I am on the plane right now flying to Istanbul. Nobody cared about my old passport. When I showed them travel document it just confused them, they (United & turkey airlines)only cared about my passport.
I am not saying you don't need travel document but looks like airlines aren't really implementing this mrp passport rule yet, I am sure they would be strict if I was traveling to USA instead of Nepal. Let's see if they care in Istanbul while boarding plane to Kathmandu.
ramromanchey
good luck ma man. I think you should be fine.
Eat lots of jhol momo while in Nepal :)
I'm in the same boat (will have to visit Nepal sometime in April/May, don't want to send my application to NY for MRP passport as it could take longer than 4/5 months to get new MRP.. so i'm planning to apply in Nepal once i'm there.. i will need to apply for Travel Document and travel to Nepal with it.
Rouge44 and Ramromanchey, I hope you've had pleasant travel without any hassles. Eager for more updates :)...
thanks!
I am not sure why you guys are confused so much and correct me if I am wrong. How can you travel to any country(including your home country) without a valid passport. If I understood correctly you can't travel anywhere in the world with old passport. The airport officials will not even let you fly with your old passport.
Sajhamitra, You are exactly correct but there is always that confusion and crack holes that people can get past. To be sure, get MRP and travel. Why to travel with a lot of risks with handwritten passport?
So I was able to use my hand written passport all the way except at Nepal airport. At Nepal airport when I handed my old passport to the officer he told me this passport is invalid, then I showed my travel document and was able to get in.
My suggestion is have both old passport and travel document that way you won't have any issue.
thank you ramromanchey !!
Good deal. Thanks ramromanchey. Btw which city in US did you travel from?
