Documentation for NCLEX-RN in United States as a foreign graduate.

The requirement of documents varies from one state to the other. Before applying for any state consider things like requirement of TOEFL (for foreign graduates), nature of license (compact or non-compact state) and requirement of Social Security Number by that Board of Nursing. You can apply from any board of nursing but cannot change it after completion of CGFNS profile.
Once finalized with the board that you are applying from, your documentation goes through four steps:-

1. CGFNS
2. Board of Nursing
3. Pearson Vue and NCSBN

1. CGFNS
- Create a profile at CGFNS.
- Apply for CES Professional report.
- It is important to note that CES Professional report is the report you are supposed to order from CGFNS. This report provides a detailed analysis of the credentials earned at multiple levels of nursing education received outside the United States according to requirements specific to a state
- Print the forms to be filled by college and Nursing board of Nepal.
- Mail back the filled forms from college (along with transcript) and nursing board of Nepal.
- Wait for the review from CGFNS.

P.S. - Some boards require TOEFL score which you might have to report from ETS to CGFNS.

2. Board of Nursing
- As CGFNS mails your CES Professional report to board of nursing, create your profile on BoN.
- For candidates without SSN, submit SSN affidavit with a hand filled application.
- Create a HPPP profile as the board sends the acceptance notice.
- Wait till the Board notifies you for your Authorization to Test (ATT).

3. Pearson VUE and NCSBN
- With ATT in hand, register in Pearson VUE and take test date for NCLEX-RN exam.
- Print confirmation letter for exam day.
- Check your result from the website of NCSBN (with the username and password from Pearson Vue) after the exam.

thank you yogi.
can you please answer few questions i have:
1. is there any alternative to cgfns? are they better or cgfns is the best?
2. if the BS in nursing degree is from India, how and when can we request the college in india to send the requested documents to cgfns?
3. You mentioned-"Print the forms to be filled by college and Nursing board of Nepal.
- Mail back the filled forms from college (along with transcript) and nursing board of Nepal." - isn't this supposed to be done by the college? and not by the applicant?
3. can we transfer license from NY to NJ? if so, how long does it take and do we need to take any additional exams?

also, i was creating a CGFNS profile and it's asking for a registration/license number in the first step. Since, my license from India has expired, can I/should I enter my license number from Nepal nursing board?

1. I am not aware of other alternatives than CGFNS for this. According to my knowledge, it is an authorized body for license verification which works together with state board of Nursing.
2. All nursing colleges has experience of performing similar documentation for their students in a foreign country. Talk to your college in India for the process.
3. Tecnically yes it is supposed to be filled and mailed by colleges and licensure body. And that is exactly how CGFNS wants to be sent. However the mailing system in Nepal isn't as crisp as USA. So, it is the applicant needs to mail from the post office itself after collecting the filled up form from college and NNC. If you can get your college or NNC to do so, that is awesome.
4. License transfer completely depends on nature of nursing board. If both are compact state, no need of transfer. If either one is non-compact, it is a paper transfer without examination. However if there's gap in nursing practice, exam rule may vary from one state to other.
5. You will fill up all the nursing license you have regardless of their expiration. There should be a place to fill up if it is an active license or not.

I started this CVS process for my wife in Jan 2016. It has been a long time but the process in not going anywhere. CGFNS directly mail the forms to the Nursing College and Nursing Council since NY Board of Nursing doesn't allow to students to involve. CGFNS already mailed the letter twice but the letters are never received by Nursing Council nor by the College.

where does the letter go?

PS: Yes, the mailing address in the forms are correct.

My wife is ready to sit for NCLEX exam. She has been reading Saunders book, NCLEX MASTER APP and uWORLD.

We are tired of waiting so now we started CES process a week ago. The advantage of CES is you can directly download the form from your CGFNS account and mail them to college or your friend there so you would know exactly what is going on. Disadvantage is some state may required english proficiency test like TOEFL with the minimum of 26 in speaking and SSN to sit for NCLEX which is not required for CVS.
