Has anybody managed to convert US Drivers License in Nepal? I've got an IDL that's set to expire soon and I really don't wanna go through shitty/gruesome task of taking Nepali DL test.
I remember hearing about people managing to do it but can't seem to be able to find a legit source at the moment.
Get an international driving license from the US before you go
Just drive or ride with your US drivers license . They really dont care . I have been doing this for last 15 yrs and never had issues with it .
They stopped converting US licenses to Nepal license a few years ago. if you are visiting only just drive with USA license and have all other paperwork..
If u need to get new license the process seems bit long..See description

@Shahi baba, I already have one.
@Nostradamus, I'm aware of drivers getting away with providing American DL during pullovers/inspections but in case of an accident, one could land in big trouble.
@mojaboy, that's what I came to hear but a checklist provided by an official at "yatayat karyalaya" seemed to refute claims of them stopping the conversion. The checklist included a recommendation/verification letter issued by US Embassy that'd need to get converted from "biswabhasa". I'd also be required to go through medical exams.
I emailed US embassy but didn't receive any response.
The US embassy doesn't do that anymore. I am not really sure if they used to do in the past also. I had called them, just to be sure.
I guess the only way is to go through the same process as everyone does to get a new license.
Don't fuck with Nepali police, or they will fuck you harder than you can imagine. Remember ghaite and chari?? They both did not have DL. I strongly advise you to get an international DL and also consult with Nepal embassy or even nepal police hanuman dhoka before leaving.

nep-ali, I just received a reply from the consular section that stated that the embassy doesn't verify/authenticate any documents. However, they do provide a diplomatic note to US Citizens that can be presented to Nepali govt Offices.
Hydrogen sulphide, I've already stated that I've got an IDP that I've been using to drive in Nepal.
