My wife is very ritual oriented.
She insists on offering 16 sweets to laxmi. But of course all this gets eaten by our kids and some by us of course. Then there's more in Bhai Tika.
I think eating this many sweets is unhealthy. Since this is prasad she can't give it to others also. Part of her ritual belief!
I didn't find any link online saying how many sweet items to offer to laxmi. Is there any official/ semi-official source which says what and how much to offer to laxmi or other Gods? I need to convince her.
Dude... just 16, My wife buys 5lbs kaju ko barfee, 2lbs laddu for Laxmi puja...we then hand it out to all the neighbors and friends as prasad... Ain't no body got time to eat 7lbs of laddu...You are right .. eating sweets causes diabetes and people with diabetes have a higher risk of blindness and other vision problems. Diabetes can damage the kidneys and may lead to kidney failure. Diabetes can cause damage to the nerves that run through the body.
We eat half piece of laddu and barfee.
The online official source says that you have to offer 7lbs of laddu to Laxmi or
1. Your bank balance will go down to 5 digits.
2. Your credit card balance will go high
3. Your stocks will go down
4. Your business will do ok
5. You will have a flat tire
6. Your roof will leak and your insurance will not cover it yet it will go high.

It comes once in a year , sometimes it is better to overlook.
I do not know what is coming but 2 kg deshi ghee is already in for sel roti.
3000 calories equals one pound weight gain. We can handle that.

Completely agree with Magorkhey1. You can be careful and eat properly other times of the year but enjoy the sweets of Laxmi Puja. It comes once in a year. It is part of our tradition. Even Americans enjoy their thanks giving and christmas meals. We nepali ko swang nai barta.
